The level of the Murray River at Yarrawonga has been climbing quickly, but the Bureau of Meteorology says the peak height should remain well below the minor flood level at Yarrawonga.
River levels are being regulated by upstream dam releases and were at 5.22m at 11.15am today.
A BOM spokesperson said river levels at Yarrawonga were close to their peak.
“Although it might only be a metre below the minor flood level, this extra metre represents a large increase in water flows compared to what we're seeing now,” the spokesperson said.
“The peak height this week looks like it will be slightly higher than the peak last month.
“We know that in the last flood event, in early July, rising river levels caused some safety concerns around and downstream of Yarrawonga.
“People enjoying the river and surrounds should pay close attention to the conditions, keeping in mind they can change quickly as river flow levels change and pulses of water move downstream.”
