Even if you’re not regularly popping down to Memorial Park to see how the Deni Show is shaping up for this weekend, there are signs the event is near.

The Pastoral Times’ front window has been transformed in honour of the long-running local event.
Deniliquin High School students popped into our office late last week to set up the window, which in part showcases the fresh produce theme of the pavilion this year.
Toys and other props have also been used to highlight other traditional competitions like beef, dairy and sheep judging, and the horse events.
Congratulations to the students for their efforts in helping to promote one of our biggest events.
Gift bag goodies spotted
If the sheer number in attendance was not enough of an indicator of the success of the Deniliquin Business Chamber’s Tradies Night, there’s another tell-tale sign this week.
Some of those in attendance have already been spotted wearing goodies out of their gift bags while at work.
The first 125 people to register for the evening received a gift bag valued at $75.
One of the items inside getting a lot of wear already was a Deni Business Chamber Do It In Deni hat.
Chamber executive officer Kate Pitt snapped this shot of Dahlsens Mitre 10 employee Rick Bentley wearing the hat out of his gift bag at work yesterday.
Big branch falls
A little bit of wild weather last week resulted in a large tree branch coming down in Deniliquin’s Waring Gardens.
The massive limb fell Thursday afternoon.
Given it’s size, PTee staff were surprised it could not be heard from our offices.
Edward River Council staff were quick to rope it off for safety reasons, but it was unable to be disposed of until yesterday.
The works crew started early to cut up the branch - placing large logs on the back of a truck to be re-used elsewhere, while smaller branches were put through the chipper and turned to mulch.
It is a timely warning that while the lovely big tree provides some amazing shade, they can also post a danger.
Make sure to take care when enjoying the great outdoors.
