Bob has been raising Pepame on his own since she was just one year old.
“Her mother left around 2021, and from that moment, I had to take on the role of both mother and father,” Bob said.
“For the past six years, it has been a journey filled with challenges, sacrifices, tears, love and unforgettable moments.
“There were many times when tears came to my eyes, especially when life became difficult.
“Raising a child alone is not easy, and I don’t think people truly understand how much strength, patience and sacrifice it takes to be both a mother and a father.
“Today, however, my tears are tears of pride.
“I received an email from Pepame’s teacher informing me that she will be receiving a Ray White Award.
“This is a special recognition for Pepame, and as her father, I cannot describe how proud I feel.”
Bob said his journey often felt lonely, but giving Pepame the best start in life was his motivation.
“People may not believe how difficult the journey has been,” he said,
“I remember pushing Pepame's pram back and forth along the streets.
“Some of my colleagues would see me and laugh.
“At times, I felt embarrassed, but I refused to let that stop me from being the father my daughter needed.
“I did everything I could to give Pepame the best care and love possible. Every sacrifice was worth it.”
As if working and raising a daughter was not already a big commitment, Bob has also been studying.
“I travelled all the way to Melbourne with Pepame in her pram while pursuing my university studies,” he said.
Despite all his challenges, Bob has now graduated from university.
“I decided that my graduation was not only an achievement for me — it was an achievement for my daughter too,” he said.
“I dedicated that success to Pepame because she was there with me throughout the journey.”
On Friday, September 11 Bob proudly watched Pepame receive her award.
“To all the single fathers out there, do not give up,” he said.
“Keep going. Your child may one day become your greatest source of pride.
“Congratulations, my beautiful daughter, Pepame.
“Daddy is so proud of you, and I will always stand beside you.”
