After encouraging feedback and a positive reaction from the community after last year’s display, the small group of volunteers, steered by Michelle Cobb, Penne Tregenza and Ros Vodusek, decided to add cheery Christmas colour that the main street would normally be missing during the festive season.
With a $1000 Christmas decoration small grant funding from Moira Shire Council, the group are adding more red and gold baubles as well as fairy lights right the way down the centre strip after only the middle block was decorated last year.
The big baubles of 2022 will still adorn the trees on the street corners with smaller baubles to be displayed in the tress down the centre.
The Christmas tree will also once again be erected in the Orr St roundabout with the group hoping to upgrade the tired but still loved Christmas tree and add a larger and fresher wreath to the town hall. “Actually we’d like to improve our decoration supplies across the board,” Ms Cobb said.
Christmas is about community, so the group, with the support from Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and Business are fundraising to achieve their vision.
They are not asking for much and are seeking support of as little as $20, maybe $50 or $100.
“We’d love to share the load and we are hoping more small donations from across the town will top up the kitty,” Ms Cobb added.
“The decorations really added such a welcoming and festive vibe to the street last and we want to improve that vibrancy.
“A massive thank you to local tradies Murray River Electrical, Complete Plaster Services, Yarrawonga Glass, Yarrawonga News and Gifts, Terry White Chemmart and Mortgage Financial Services who have assisted us with donations so far, we are greatly appreciative.
“We have been very well supported so far but we would love for more businesses to come onboard across Yarrawonga. You don’t just have to be on the main street.
“We are also still after any donations that people are able to afford. Some of the decorations we have are falling apart and to get decorations that are big enough to decorate the street, they cost a fair bit of money.”
If anyone would like to assist with donations, you can donate to YMT BANK, BSB: 803-188, ACC No: 100-030-292.
“Your support is greatly appreciated and your contribution will go a long way in making the main street shine even brighter during this special season,” Ms Cobb concluded.
The baubles and fairy lights will be put up on Saturday, December 2 from 3pm – 6pm with additional decorations to be put up from 6am on December 3.
