The musical parody of the reality TV franchise is filled with Botox, betrayals and backstabbing.
It's the Real Housewives as you have never seen them before; lying cheating and singing their way up the social ladder.
But before the show gets on the road, it’s audition time.
Allegro is searching for five women and two men to bring the production to life under the direction of Catherine McBurney and with Barb Heard as musical director.
“In the true tradition of the Housewives, they are a shallow bunch of women comparing their self-important lives,” Catherine said.
“They are interested in their own beauty, their own wealth and being one up on each other; all threaded together with a lot of great quips and songs.
“It’s fun, fast-paced comedy with a lot of one liners.”
The Real Housewives the Musical was written by American playwright Molly Bell and been performed to great reviews.
“A tuneful, hilarious, show-stopping musical spoof. I loved every second!”.
“Uproarious —a smash hit!”.
Musical director, Barb Hird is a familiar name in this region and could barely contain her excitement when Allegro decided to do a musical production.
“I thought it would be wonderful to do something really topical, and how topical is The Real Housewives?” Barb said.
“Everybody knows it and the writers have given poetic license to make it familiar.
“The music is funky, bouncy and bright and the girls are all fake and makeup.
“It’s a fun thing to do and I’m sure it’s the cast who will enjoy it the most.”
With a Cabaret style setting, The Real Housewives of Lake Mulwala appeals to men as well as women.
It’s suitable for ages 15+, a little risqué, but not enough to offend.
How much Botox is too much, and how big should your fake boobs be?
You’ll find out when The Real Housewives of Lake Mulwala comes to a church hall near you in late July.
