In these scriptures we see the devil using God’s word to try to trick Jesus.
The devil doesn’t come as a roaring lion, but instead is subtle and he simply tries to convince Jesus by quoting a passage from scripture.
The devil wants to kill Jesus, so he tries to convince Him to jump.
Had Jesus listened to him, he would certainly have fallen to his death.
The devil sounds convincing, but Jesus doesn’t fall for this trickery.
Jesus knows God’s word and he also knows God’s heart.
Jesus had studied the word of God throughout his life, but he had also spent much time in prayer and fasting which brought him into a close relationship with his Father.
So much so, that he and the Father were one.
God’s spirit in us gives us the ability to discern good from evil.
As we seek God by reading His word and prayer, we are filled with the spirit.
It’s the word and the spirit that gives us a discerning heart. Had Jesus acted on this word it would have led to His death.
In today’s world, we are being bombarded by scammers daily.
Our best defence against these attacks is to be like Jesus, and have a discerning heart.
We can only do that as we draw close to God and allow his spirit to fill our hearts.
Let’s not let the devil outsmart us. Stay close to Jesus.
