Wonderful women welcomed

A week of prep involving painted hand prints, heartfelt message-writing and culinary creations culminated in a ‘Wonderful Women Cuppa and Catch up’ at St Anne’s College ahead of Mother’s Day weekend.

Mothers, grandmothers and special friends of students at the school arrived to be celebrated at a morning tea after a classroom visit, where they engaged in crafts, pampering and other activities with the students.

Deputy principal Kate McGrath said the annual event was an important one on the school’s calendar, with Saint Anne the maternal grandmother of Jesus.

“It helps us celebrate the importance of women in the community and the incredible impact they have as the first early educators of young people,” Ms McGrath said.

“We’re wishing all the women in our community a fabulous Mother’s Day.”

Mum Amanda Felmingham, whose kids all attend St Anne’s College across primary and secondary school levels, said she made a point of coming to the special event every year.

“I have four kids here, so I’ve been coming for many years,” she said, as she posed for The News’ camera with her youngest child, Year 3 student Miller Bok.

The mums said farewell to the kids when their school day started and made their way to the college’s newest wing for cuppas, cakes and a chat among themselves where the walls were decorated with Mother’s Day messages from their children.
