The man’s wife parked the white Nissan X-TRAIL at GV Health in Graham St, Shepparton, as she briefly went into the cafe to get him a milkshake.
In the meantime, a 23-year-old Shepparton man is alleged to have gotten into the unlocked vehicle, found the keys, which were not in the ignition, and driven away with the man inside.
Police located the car about an hour and a half later in the Ford Rd area, near the intersection of Ford and Verney Rds.
The elderly man was still inside the vehicle, while the driver was found allegedly committing a burglary at a nearby business office.
A 23-year-old Shepparton man has been charged with false imprisonment, theft of a motor vehicle, burglary and driving while disqualified.
He was refused bail on Monday, July 20, and has been remanded to reappear in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in August.
