ClubMulwala Outdoor Bowls
What an amazing week it has been for the club fielding four teams in pennant this year and three made it through to the grand final of their division.
Two of those finals were played on Saturday with both sides coming home with the win, the third will be played on Tuesday.
You could say we are “the little club that roared.”
Pennant Result
Saturday Grand Finals.
B2 travelled to Corowa Civic rinks to take on Benalla.
They played great bowls to finally win on two rinks and having a strong win by 20 shots overall, a very strong season where the team went through undefeated.
B5 travelled all the way to YMGCR rinks where they met Corowa RSL.
What a match this turned out to be, one rink was in front (if only just) all day, the two other rinks were down most of the day, with our team going to the afternoon tea break 11 shots in arrears.
After the break the competition heightened with one rink just holding sway and finishing the day eight shots up, four of those being scored on the last two ends.
The second rink fighting back from well behind to draw level on the final end, rink three had fought back and were five shots down going into the last end.
They held one shot when the skips went to play their final bowls, what a tense period with the opposing skips bowls just missing the kitty on two occasions, meaning we came away with a four (4) shot overall win.
What a great effort by all who played in the grand finals and all the members who played in both teams throughout the season.
Celebration went on for some time at Club Mulwala with players and supporters in full voice.
Tuesday Pennant
The grand final was played on Tuesday, March 5 at YMGCR, where we met across town rivals Yarrawonga.
Results in next weeks report.
YMGCR Bowls
Again the heat has hit and still no rain in sight, but bowls has continued on in all formats and competitions.
The Autumn weather usually provides many opportunities for pleasant bowling, so let’s hope that this happens.
Club Events
The Final of the Mixed Pairs was held last Sunday in very warm conditions.
The result was a victory to Garry and Claire Sanders over Greg Green and Laureen Smith, 21/13. Congratulations to all players.
The Ladies Pairs are scheduled for late Wednesday afternoon (March 6.)
Barefoot Bowls
The final night of the series was held last Tuesday.
Everyone was in fine spirits and presentations for team nominated local charities were made to section and weekly winners.
President Kerry and Secretary Peter again thanked YMGCR for their sponsorship.
It was decided unanimously that Barefoot Bowls would continue in a social format until Easter.
Teams of 4 are invited and participants do not necessarily need to have played in the charity series.

Further details are on the notice of board.
Member Hero
Hat’s off to Dougie Wheeler. After a lot of knock backs from members, he kindly offered to be scoreboard attendant at the O&M Grand Final being played at YMGCR.
In President Kerry’s opinion, he is a true stalwart member of the club. We need to find more members like our Dougie.

Tungamah Bowls
Ovens and Murray B1 Pennant Grand Final was played at YMGCR between Tungamah and Moyhu.
Congratulations to Tungamah on winning the grand final as they were too strong on the day for Moyhu.
Although this rink was tight on the first few ends S Flanagan’s team, T Costigan, A Ralph and D Edis ended up winning convincingly.
D Thomson’s team, G Whinray, B Meaney and D Sidebottom started out strongly and this rink was never in doubt.
G Sampson’s team, S Thomson, M Saunders and S Lawford had a good start but Moyhu fought back to be a draw on the second last end with Tungamah going down by a small margin.
Overall a good win to Tungamah, winning 87 to Moyhu 58.
Thank you to the host club YMGCU with the greens being in perfect conditions, also to Moyhu for their sportsmanship on the day.
Thank you to all whom came and supported their team on the day.

To the A1 team, well done to have gotten so far this season.
Who knows, maybe next year we can go even further.

Results for this game will be in next week’s report.
