Social Bowls
Another great turn out for our Social Bowls this week with some very good bowls being played under beautiful cloudless skies. There was plenty of competition with Malcolm Miller (Skip), Nicole McPherson (2nd) and Geoff Bullen leading beautifully to secure the overall win.
Friends In Common Tournament
What an absolutely beautiful day it was on Sunday to gather with friends (pun intended) for a game of bowls to raise much needed funds for our very well respected local charity Friends In Common. It is hard to put into words the exceptional generosity of the bowling fraternity and community in our local area and beyond. Over the last three weeks we have been selling raffle tickets for this cause in the ClubMulwala foyer and the response from our locals and visitors has been amazing. Back to the bowls.
We had teams of bowlers from Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort Bowls Club, Yarrawonga Bowls Club, Berrigan, Tungamah, Tooradin, South East Victoria and of course our own ClubMulwala Bowls Club.
The fierce competition on the greens was there. Bowlers are like that. The ‘want’ to win is never far from the minds of the people who play our great game once they start the competition however, the necessity to enjoy the day is still constant evidenced by the manner in which all participants played. All of this was on show Sunday and going by the feedback the participants and the many spectators thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Winners on the day were as follows:
1st – Mick Reilly, Ian Price and Carolyn Reilly.
2nd – Ray Irvine, Rhonda Irvine and Julian Jones.
3rd – Geoff Mitchell, Brad Mitchell and Elizabeth Ewing.
Best 1st game – Peter Velardo, Mick Crawford and Sue Middleton.
Best 2nd game – Greg Green, Col Withers and Vicki Withers.
Best 3rd game – Kelly Milich, Mathew Hanson, Jason Milich.
We must thank all those special sponsors who contributed to the day including our major sponsor ClubMulwala, Bunnings, Byramine Homestead and Brewery Wade and Nicole McPherson, Hicks Butchers and Trevor and Karen Loe.
The meal cooked and served by the ladies from Friends was exceptional and enjoyed by all.
These tournaments do not run themselves and we thank Stephen McPhee and his Match Committee, Ray Tovey, Judy Laughlin, Greg Bennett, Faye Cook (catering), Barry Martin, Mark Smith (bar), Trevor Loe, Barry Pitt, and the many Club volunteers that help set up and tear down. A very special thank you to Don Lockhart, our umpire for the tournament.
At this early stage there is no firm figure on the amount raised for Friends however early estimates puts it at around $4000. Congratulations to all who participated and supported the day and the raffles; that is an amazing amount and will be put to good use supporting cancer victims and their families.
