It was a postcard day for football — sun shining, deck looking magic and the sort of conditions that make you briefly forget you’re about to watch Ressies football.
The Lunch Time Legends had everything set up for another crack at September glory. Unfortunately, football can be a cruel mistress, and by the end of the afternoon we were left wondering how the hell we’d managed to get here. The Cinderella story was within touching distance, only for the clock to strike midnight at exactly the wrong time.
The boys started strong, keeping Katty goalless in the first term and heading into quarter time with a handy lead.
Malnourished Milner — Lach Vearing — was one of the genuine highlights, putting together another huge finals performance. Ash Milner might have the home-and-away B&F sewn up, but there will be an absolute uproar if Malnourished doesn’t get himself a finals best after the way he’s been performing.
The Camry McDonald was back to his best, slotting three majors and working bloody hard to keep the Legends in the contest. When the game needed someone to put the foot down, the Camry was there — although the fuel light was clearly flashing by the final quarter.
Self appointed “Mr September” O’Kane might never have actually made it to September, but his August form suggested he’d have been right at home. He’ll have to settle for Mr August, although we’re yet to find anyone who cares about that award.
Jezza Kelly gave absolutely everything, as you’d expect, somehow managing to drag the prime mover body to contest after contest. The bloke’s engine might be old, but it still gets him where it needs to go. Doesn’t matter how rough the chassis is when you keep turning up to the same intersection.
Stiffy Green continued to throw himself into everything, while the rest of the boys kept battling away as the game tightened up. It was finals football at its best — hard, competitive and close all afternoon, with the Legends never giving up.
The game eventually came down to the final stages with the boys desperately trying to hold on. Unfortunately, after leading for much of the afternoon, Katty found a goal after the siren to pinch the game by five points. It’s the sort of ending that has you checking the rules, the scoreboard and whether the timekeeper has a few dollars on the opposition.

Warm conditions greeted us for our semi final against Dookie. The action on the field was just as hot with the young men coming out and applying typical finals pressure and intensity.
The first quarter saw Dookie get an early lead and carry that into 1/4 time holding a 3 goal lead at the first change.
The second quarter was a brilliant game of football to watch with the Bears getting some reward for effort and hitting the score board pegging back the lead as the quarter rolled on to go into the main change trailing 31 to 20.
In the third quarter the ball just didn’t bounce our way and Dookie took advantage of their luck.
With amazing tackling pressure shown right through the match the Bears were still in touch at 3/4 time but had some real work to do trailing 69 to 41 at the last break.
Unfortunately the bigger bodies of Dookie shone through in the last quarter and they kicked away to win the game 18. 7. 115 to Tungamah 9. 5. 59 the game was played in good spirits and the only way our boys know how, to play hard but fair.
It was an amazing year for our team and we saw a lot of growth from all of the players. Well done boys bring on 2027.

On a glorious autumn morning, a sniff of finals was in the air with the young bears chock full of confidence following a great week on the track.
The coaches instructed the boys to not take previous results for granted and bring the finals intensity required in big games. And the boys certainly responded, after an arm wrestle in the first quarter the bears started to get on top through the middle of the ground, constantly winning back possession through desperate tackling pressure. Darcy Cummins led the way. His thirst for the contest was a real highlight. The back 6 continued to repel any of Tocs attacks, with Isaac Mclarty, fresh of an injury scare in the previous game, dominating his position. Tyler Buerckner was another who stood up in the backline and led the way. After half time the bears pressure was too much for the young bloods and the boys were peppering the goals at will. Unfortunately they didn’t have their kicking boots on, but it gives us something to work on during the week. Judd Haebich and Chase Jarjoura were dominant through the midfield, and Judd also hit the scoreboard with a couple of goals. Peyton Smith had a great day at both ends of the ground, consistently bobbing up in the right place at the right time. All in all a great team effort by the boys.
On to next week, we will travel to Blighty on Sunday to take on Deni Rovers for a spot in the big dance
