The Tungamah Bears have recorded a convincing 135-point home ground victory over Dookie United for their Picola League’s Round 14 clash.
On a beautiful winter’s day, with perfect conditions for football the Ladies Day marquee was full of support, and the boys certainly gave everyone something to cheer about with a dominant four-quarter performance.
From the opening bounce, Tungamah controlled the game with relentless pressure, slick ball movement and accurate finishing in front of goal, running out convincing 26.13 (169) to 5.4 (34) winners.
Josh Cheek was outstanding in a best-on-ground performance, controlling the contest with his work around the ground and setting the standard for the side.
Up forward, Brush was simply unstoppable, finishing with a remarkable eight-goal haul, while Jacob Adkins added six majors and Ned McKeown chipped in with five to cap off a prolific day in front of goal.
It was another strong team performance, with Glenn Dominick and Lach Phillips continuing their consistent form and plenty of contributors helping the Bears maintain their intensity for all four quarters.
The challenge steps up next week as Tungamah takes on Barooga in what promises to be a fascinating contest, with an added family rivalry as Bears coach Luke comes up against his brother in the coaches’ box.
Bragging rights will be well and truly on the line in the battle of the brothers, and the Bears will be looking to carry this week’s momentum into another big clash.

The Lunch Time Legends welcomed Dookie for Ladies Day and, in a fitting tribute to Ressies football, Nothing says Ressies quite like kicking six straight behinds to open the game. If you were trying to convince a first-time spectator to come back, this probably wasn’t the sales pitch.
Big Jim was clunking contested marks like Wayne Carey in his prime but finished with three goals, seven behinds. The old bull was seeing them like beach balls and kicking them like boomerangs.
Matt O’Kane rocking up for ladies day was shorter on the tote than winks in her prime.
Whether it was Ladies Day or Spindle’s old girl still filthy he’d been relegated to the Ressies and refused to wash his clothes, the big fella rocked up shirtless. Bold strategy for a bloke who has the physique of a radio antenna.
The forward line had enough weight to make Taronga Zoo elephant enclosure look malnourished. However, it was the cult hero “velvet sledgehammer” Prescott, whose BMI is lower than most Ressies blood alcohol content, that was our predominant lead up forward early.
The midfield spent the first half proving intelligence isn’t a prerequisite for football. With a collect total of 2 brain cells between them and looking like those two were competing for third place, somehow, they eventually got on top.
Ash Milner has become more predictable than Groundhog Day. Another week, another mountain of intercepts. Despite the opposition avoiding him like a plasterer try’s to avoid a Monday.
The white board might quite clearly say back flank, but Playa has always maintained that’s “more of a vibe”, his GPS tracker looks like it was strapped to a German Shepard in an off lead dog park.
Captain Kelly’s relationship with training remains ceremonial. He has realised that handballing to some of these other players is just creating extra work for himself though, deciding to deliver it to the forwards straight from the centre bounce.
Seth must’ve spent the week binge-watching the World Cup because he decided fists were optional, heading one clear in defence. Luckily there was enough empty space upstairs to absorb the impact
Heartbreaking news as Gambi was ruled out for the season. The players were devastated… right up until they remembered he’d still be the runner. The rehab might be over, but the punishment isn’t as we’re still stuck listening to him every Saturday.
Another four points in the bank and the Lunch Time Legends continue to build. The football still isn’t always pretty, but neither are the blokes playing it.
Thirds

The boys took on Dookie this week, knowing it would be a challenge because the opposition was sitting near the top of the ladder.
As the game began, it was clear that the Dookie boys had much more height across the ground and bigger bodies than the Bears, so the game plan was to maintain possession and move the ball cleanly.
This tactic worked well, with the boys producing a great first quarter and going into the break with a 19–14 lead.
The second quarter was similar to the first, with Dookie’s height shining through as it controlled the air.
However, the Tunga boys were creative in attack, and the game was evenly poised at half-time, with the Bears trailing by only one point.
Dookie took more control of the game in the third quarter.
Both teams continued to work hard, but the opposition took a 16-point lead into the three-quarter-time break.
In the final quarter, both teams demonstrated the same intensity they had shown at the beginning of the game.
A very physical style of football was on display, with both teams playing hard but fair.
Dookie eventually came out on top with a 17-point victory.
There was plenty for the young Bears to take from the game, and it was a performance they could be proud of.

An icy and foggy start greeted the Bears for their clash with another top-four aspirant in Dookie on Saturday.
The boys were keen to start strongly against a good side, and they certainly did that.
A record tackle count coincided with plenty of forward entries in the first quarter, and the boys eventually put a couple through the big sticks.
After an even second quarter, the boys returned to work in the second half and piled on seven goals to one to run out comfortable winners in a confidence-building victory.
Judd Haebich was everywhere, tackling, applying pressure and driving the ball forward.
Finn Cummins played his best game of the year, producing some great line-breaking runs and finishing with two goals.
Chase Jarjoura won clearance after clearance and rarely wasted a disposal.
Cooper Beggs played his role to perfection across half-back, intercepting nicely.
Noah Lawless was a great focal point up forward and was rewarded with a couple of goals.
Jameson Dickins was involved in everything on the wing, and his defensive pressure was a highlight.
Trav Hook was fantastic in the ruck, while Flynn Cox roamed the half-forward line nicely and collected a handful of marks.
It was a fantastic team effort, with everyone playing their part in the Bears’ best win of the year.
Next week, the Bears travel to Barooga for the first time to test themselves against the ladder leaders.

Fifths
The boys and girl were up against Dookie, and even the fog hung around to watch these superstars.
With little Sully playing his first game, the young fella not only shone but showed that he is going to be just like his big brother.
Nat was a standout, kicking her first goal of the year, while Dom literally dominated the entire game.
It was another awesome effort by the team of superstars.

Netball
Under 11s
The Under 11s welcomed four Dookie netballers and a handful of Under 9s this week so they could form two teams and ensure everyone had a game.
Players were rotated throughout the match to keep the teams evenly matched and give all the girls a great opportunity to practise and develop their skills.
It was fantastic to see everyone’s positive attitude, teamwork and willingness to adapt.
A big thank you went to all the players for embracing the changes and to the parents who stepped in to help, as well as for their patience and support.

Under 13s
Tungamah 42 defeated Dookie 15
After a chilly start, the sun came out to provide the perfect day for netball, and the girls put together another fantastic team performance.
Everyone contributed throughout the match, giving 100 per cent effort from the first whistle to the last.
The defensive pressure on Dookie’s centre passes, something the girls had been working hard on at training, really paid off, creating plenty of turnovers and giving the team great opportunities in attack.
There were also several positional changes during the game, with every player adapting brilliantly and showcasing the strength, versatility and depth of this talented team.
It was another wonderful performance by all the girls.

Under 15s
Tungamah 38 defeated Dookie 20
It was a cold start weather-wise, but a hot start for the Bears.
A huge first quarter saw the Bears take a strong lead, and they did not look back.
Maddie was powerful in attack, providing strong feeds to the shooters and driving brilliantly through the court.
The defensive pressure across the court remained strong throughout the game and helped the Bears create plenty of turnovers.
Billie showed that she had missed being on the court, collecting intercepts and rebounds galore while providing plenty of positivity to her teammates.
Sienna rotated through several positions and played her role for the team.
Her direct pressure on her opponent helped the Bears gain turnovers in defence and convert more goals.
It was a full-team performance and was great to see.

Under 17s
Tungamah 57 defeated Dookie 32
The Bears had a slow start, but they kept working away at the contest with determination and resilience.
Their relentless defensive effort was evident all the way down the court, putting constant pressure on the opposition and creating valuable turnovers.
As the game progressed, the Bears found their rhythm, with the shooters delivering outstanding accuracy and confidence to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Awards for the match went to Grace from Jaycees, Abbi from Rich Glen and Emily from Central Murray Bank for their impressive contributions.
It was a hard-fought team performance that showcased persistence, discipline and excellent teamwork from start to finish.

C Reserve
Tungamah 18 was defeated by Dookie 42
This game started off strong with both teams going goal for goal during the first half.
Dookie was a fast-paced team, but the girls didn’t get sucked into this and kept it at their pace.
Some different playing combos were tried but unfortunately Tunga lost but they fought hard and all played well. Tegan attempted well to the game and had hands over every ball.
Charlotte was unstoppable in the goals and worked hard for the rebounds.
Ally was excellent in defence reading the ball well with plenty of intercepts.
C Grade
Tungamah 41 defeated Dookie 40
Coming up against the top-of-the-ladder side, the girls knew they were in for a tough contest, especially with the hotter-than-average conditions adding another challenge.
From the first whistle, they showed they were not intimidated, matching the opposition with relentless intensity and determination.
The pressure applied by every player was outstanding and became the driving force behind the team’s momentum throughout the game.
Every contest was fought hard, every loose ball was chased and the team’s defensive pressure never let up.
In the goal circle, Chloe was on fire, sinking shots with confidence and consistency to earn the Players’ Player award.
Madi K was equally impressive, standing strong against tough, body-on-body defenders.
Heading into the final quarter five goals down, the girls received a quick pep talk from Sarah that sparked something special.
They came out with renewed belief, playing with purpose and composure.
Every pass had intent, and when possession was lost, there were no dropped heads, with every player digging even deeper and fighting twice as hard to win the ball back.
Jorja was outstanding in defence, applying relentless pressure over the ball and making life incredibly difficult for the opposition’s shooters.
It was a true team performance.
The girls never gave up, fighting until the final seconds to secure a fantastic and well-earned one-point victory.

B Grade
Tungamah 37 was defeated by Dookie 41
Tungamah B Grade produced a determined performance on Saturday, falling just short against Dookie in a hard-fought 41–37 contest.
The Bears came out with plenty of intensity, applying strong defensive pressure and making the most of their opportunities to open a four-goal lead at the first break.
They maintained their composure through the second quarter, continuing to work hard across the court and extending the margin to six goals at half-time.
Dookie lifted to another level after the main break, gaining momentum in the third quarter and taking a three-goal lead into the final change.
Despite the setback, the Bears refused to give in and battled hard until the final whistle.
Their persistence and determination kept them in the contest, but Dookie held on to claim a four-goal victory.
The Bears never stopped trying and showed great resilience and determination.
The team thanked Emily, Chelsea and Billie for helping out on the day.

A Grade
Tungamah 40 was defeated by Dookie 44
Tungamah A Grade took on Dookie in a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash on Saturday at the Bear Pit.
Dookie came out firing, putting the Bears under pressure early and establishing a six-goal lead at the first break.
Despite the team’s efforts, Dookie extended the margin to eight goals at half-time and 13 goals by the final change.
At three-quarter time, the coach spoke to the players about returning to their own game.
The Bears refused to give in.
The final quarter showcased the determination and resilience of the group as the Bears returned to their style of netball, worked hard for one another and executed their structures.
The Bears won the final quarter by nine goals, reducing the final margin to just four goals in an impressive finish.
A big thank you went to Lauren, Tahnee, Brodie, Elli and Stacey for helping the team throughout the day.
