Monday, February 3 was the season opening and the Passed Players event was conducted in honour of former competitors and friends.
Hans Lang won the event in a black ball nail biter over Darren Thompson and congratulations go to Hank on picking up the first trophy of the year.
Wednesday, February 5 saw Darren make amends with victory over Neville Page in social play after a round robin event.
Darren followed this up with another win over Nev in the Diggers Challenge on Monday, February 10 and collected win number 3 on the trot when he defeated the clubs youngest (by far) member in Mia Michado in the Wednesday, February 12 event.
A summer of practice has obviously paid dividends for club president Darren, who has returned in stellar form.
Darren will be receiving a visit from the handicapper and can expect an adjustment that reflects his excellent fresh form, much like sprinters such as Mahogany and Manikato earned from the VRC in past years.
Nine-year-old Mia Michado is the rising club star and has already achieved many outstanding results in snooker.
Mia is a member of Yarrawonga snooker royalty as the daughter of five time Australian Women’s Champion Sam Ridley, granddaughter of coach and former professional Shirley Ridley and niece of former Australian number one Adrien Ridley.
Mia represented Victoria in the 2020 Australian Junior Championships and based on her play and rate of improvement, in addition to the coaching she is receiving from three champions of the sport, she looks like having a huge future.
In only her third night of club competition she made one break of 15, despite only just being able to reach over the table and made her way to the evening finale.
Best of luck Mia, we all look forward to watching you progress and develop your considerable skills.
