A competitive shooter who cut his teeth at in the sport at Kyabram Small Bore Rifle Club as a teenager has won selection in an Australian team to contest a world shooting championship event later this year.

David Taylor, 40, will test his skills and mental capacity in a division of the International Precision Rifle Federation World Championships in Colorado in the United States in September.
It’s a shooting discipline that ranges from 200m to 1200m with steel targets which Taylor said ‘‘tests you physically and mentally’’ with its variation of challenges.

Taylor, a former Kyabram P-12 student, and now an instructor for the Australian Air Force based at Sale, proudly said his journey in shooting started at Kyabram Small Bore Club in the early 2000s as a teenager.
He showed a flare and skill for the sport which led to selection in the Australia team for the Oceania Games in 2001.
He was also a regular winner of state and national championships.

Taylor drifted away from the sport for a while after leaving school and finding a career path, but rekindled his interest in shooting about five years ago, this time in the precision rifle event.
It’s a decision he hasn’t regretted for one moment.
He immediately showed he was better than the average shooter in this discipline and in no time had made his mark, so his progression to contest the world titles surprised no-one.
One person chuffed with Taylor’s honour of representing his country is his mother, long time Kyabramite Karen, who has followed her son’s journey closely and proudly and now can’t wait to follow his fortunes in the sport on the world stage.
The Australian team to contest the world titles in Colorado from September 11 to 19 comprises 12 shooters.
