Hoppers face mixed results

Rennie moved into a Preliminary Final with a solid yet unspectacular win over Dookie by 43 points at Katandra on Sunday.

The game was an arm wrestle early as Rennie were able to get ball to half forward with Dookie prepared to sit back then counter attack.

A long rolling goal by Ednie followed by majors to True and Crawford saw the Hoppers up by 19 at the first break.

Santoro was in everything early in the second quarter but many of his teammates seemed to have put the cue in the rack early and only poor kicking for goal by Dookie saw the Hoppers hold a flattering 12 point lead at the long break.

Term 3 saw the human vacuum Giblett cleaning up play, Rhodes being clean and dominant with the ball and tackling pressure helped to turn the game back in the Hoppers favour and Ednie with two and Harry Douglass goaling to create a 23 point margin at the final break.

With Lenny Legudi getting a heap of the ball and Long whipping into play the Hoppers ran out the game strongly with goals to true, Ednie and a super mark and goal to Sid Dowling which thrilled the Hopper crowd.

A 43 point difference was a solid result.

Rennie now takes on premiership favorites Barooga at Picola next Saturday at 9.15am. The Hoppers will need to exponentially lift their levels and not have any quarter drop offs to grab a Grand Final spot.

Netball

Three of our teams battled it out in their finals matches, with the U17s progressing through to the Preliminary Final. Come along to Blighty this Sunday to get behind the team and cheer them on as they take the court at 10.25am. We’d love to see plenty of Rennie support on the sidelines.

Good luck also to the Rennie 4ths football team, who play their Preliminary Final this Saturday.

C Grade

Rennie 24 defeated by Tungamah 31

We went into our final match with a positive mindset, strong team cohesion and a belief in what we could achieve together. We started confidently, putting the first four goals on the scoreboard, but Tungamah were never going to let us dictate the game and quickly matched our intensity.

Our defensive end was once again a strong force, with Rach and Gaby working tirelessly and combining beautifully with Georgie, Tess and Jazmin. With the warm conditions, we were able to rotate through our defensive combinations seamlessly, keeping the pressure on and continuing to challenge Tungamah at every opportunity.

Through the mid-court, Millie, Lacey and Nada worked hard to create space and drive the ball forward. Their movement and determination provided our goalers, Kayla and Tegan, with opportunities to build on the scoreboard and keep us within reach.

For all the positives we took from the game, unfortunately it just wasn’t our day, with Tungamah eventually finishing with a seven-goal lead.

We were incredibly fortunate to have Tess and Jazmin, both stepping up from our Under 17s, join our C Grade side this season. They have certainly proven their value, showing maturity, determination and plenty of potential for the future.

While we may not have progressed beyond the finals round, there is so much for this team to be proud of. Every player has contributed, committed and supported one another throughout the season, and that is what makes this group so special.

To our entire C Grade team — thank you for the effort, resilience, laughter, encouragement and belief you have brought to every game and training session. The result may not have been what we hoped for, but the journey we have shared has been something to be proud of.

Hold your heads high, Hopperettes. We may be finished for 2026, but what a team we have been.

U17s

Rennie 57 defeated Jerilderie 45

Another day of netball, and the sun was shining bright, bringing the heat both on and off the court! Jerilderie came out strong, putting the Hoppers under pressure and making us work hard from the very start. As the game went on, the girls settled, found their rhythm and began to work together as a team. A fantastic effort from all players to come away with the win!

A huge congratulations to Jerilderie on a great season. You have been a strong and competitive side all season, as well as a fantastic and respectful team to verse.

The entire Rennie team is wishing our mid-courter Lily Thompson a speedy recovery from her knee injury, and are hoping that she will take the court for our preliminary final against Katandra.

U15s

Rennie 31 defeated by Dookie United 33

What an incredible semi-final from our girls! They didn’t leave anything in the tank and after a full game of netball, the scores were tied, under somewhat confusing circumstances, sending us into overtime. Scores were tied again after extra time with Dookie scoring the 2 goal difference to take the win.

While the result wasn’t what we hoped for, the girls should be incredibly proud of themselves. Their positivity, teamwork and never-give-up attitude were outstanding, and they played amazingly from start to finish. Well done girls, I couldn’t be more proud!
