Tungamah travelled to Jerilderie on Saturday looking to make it 8 wins on the trot to start the season.
With a few key outs including coach Stevenson and goal kicking machine Saunders it wasn’t going to be an easy task.
Jerilderie started well, kicking to the scoring end they peppered the goal front, however, they didn’t make the most of their chances kicking 1:5 for the quarter after dominating the play.
Tungamah on the other hand kicked 2 goals straight to take a 1-point lead into the first change. Jerilderie upped their intensity in the second term and had the Bears on the back foot. They seemed to be working harder across the ground and were definitely more physical around the contest than Tungamah.
They were able to grab the lead by 8 points at the main change into the breeze which showed how dominant they were. The undefeated Bears knew they were in a contest and had to lift their intensity in the 3rd term against the breeze if they were to stay in the game.
A couple of game ending injuries in the first half were also making things harder for the visitors as they were down to 2 on the bench. Des O’Kane moved into defense in the second half and this proved a masterstroke as he was cool under pressure and chopped off many of the Demons forward thrusts.
He was well assisted by Dylan Scott and thirds sub Geoff Montgomery who both won key one on one contests in defense and started to get the Bears into gear.
The midfield also lifted with Liam Connell gaining some ascendancy virtually rucking the entire second half on his own. Matt O’Kane and Nick Irvine got to work at ground level and this allowed Oscar Willis and Zach Scott to get the ball moving on the outside.
Damon Symes was proving a handful up forward and had 4 of Tungamah’s 7 goals to ¾ time. Jerilderie kept up the pressure but couldn’t extend their lead with the breeze, in fact Tungamah cut it to 5 points.
The last quarter was similar to the first 3, a great contest throughout, however Tungamah were able to get some more flow into their ball movement which translated onto the scoreboard.
Goals to Justin Saunders, Tom Irvine, Liam Williams and another to Symes allowed them to hold onto a 12-point victory. Not convincing by any stretch of the imagination, but gritty nonetheless and one which will hold them in good stead going forward.
Well done to the two under 17 boys, Liam Williams and Lachy Phillips who both played their first full senior games and held their own.

The Demons welcomed the Bears to their fantastic home ground. With Loch, Liam and Geoff playing seniors and a few unavailable, it created an opportunity for all players to get lots of game time.
Tungamah helped Jerilderie out with lending a few players and got everyone on the ground which was great to see.
The ball moved up and down the ground regularly and gave everyone a chance to get a touch. The Bears ground the game out and came away with a solid win.

Fourths
Jerilderie 0.0.0 defeated by Tungamah 11.16.82.
The Bears travelled to Jerilderie on a cold morning but a great morning for footy. The 4ths started off a bit slow, taking the first quarter to warm up.
The kids played in different positions, giving them all a run. Sefa Bainikoro and Declan Wood stood out from start to finish.
It was good to see a couple of the younger brothers Zade Ussher and Finn Wood get a run alongside their older brothers TJ and Declan.
When they got their chance they didn’t disappoint. Good game by Jerilderie, they fought hard all day. Congratulations to the 4ths on another good win.
