The Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort ladies golfers had a fantastic opening day to their season last Wednesday whilst also being able to donate some money to Friends in Common.
Ninety-six ladies played golf in the morning from the 18 and 9 hole groups while past players, ladies from the Mulwala lifestyle village, friends and family joined in for a luncheon and fashion show by U and I Designs later in the day.
Yarrawonga Friends in Common Treasurer Chris Gardner said the FIC committee was grateful for the donations, especially in the current financial times.
“This donation will go towards accommodation and fuel for those who are having to travel for cancer treatments,” Chris said.
“With the cost of living going up, we are very much relying on our generous community to assist us to help those in need.
“We are very grateful to the lady golfers for donating this money and for Donna from U and I Designs for coming up from Melbourne and donating 10% of the proceeds she makes from her clothes today to Friends in Common.
“We are always looking for more volunteers so if you would like to give back to your community and assist locals in some of the worst moments of their life, please contact us for more information on joining Friends in Common.”
YMGCR Ladies Golf President Edith Mason said the opening day of the season is always a great day with the group also donating money to a worthwhile cause.
“This was our official opening of the ladies golf season for the year,” Edith said.
“Usually we have a ladies day luncheon on opening and closing day where we donate money to a local charity.
“This is the biggest fundraiser we have had. We thank the golf club greatly for their assistance in hosting the event, for their help on the day and for everything they assist us with throughout the year.
“We always donate locally and generally to something cancer related. Friends in Common work so hard in the community, look after everyone and are so caring and generous.
“They are one of the most worthwhile charities to donate to.”
Donna Bracken from U and I Designs, who for a second consecutive year brought her wash and wear clothing range to the opening day, said it was a privilege to be involved and to assist in donations to our great local charity.
“I came up and held a fashion show last year which we saw was a great success so I jumped at the chance to do it again,” Donna said.
“We donate part of our proceeds to a local charity and what is better than that to be able to assist them.
“Friends in Common is fantastic and I am so pleased to be able to donate some of my proceeds to them.”
