As well as the usual home and away football and netball games, last weekend also saw numerous locals take part in league championships.
Several Mulwala and Yarrawonga netballers were part of the Murray and Ovens and Murray Netball open sides respectively who competed in the Netball Association Championships at the State Hockey Centre in Melbourne.
Yarrawonga had five girls represent the O&M including Laura Ryan, Hannah Symes, Laura Davis, Maddy Allan and Kaleisha Pell while Sarah Moore was an assistant coach.
The open side won against close rival the Goulburn Valley to face off against Banyule in the Grand Final, only to lose by one goal.
Unfortunately, the Under 17 side were knocked out first round of the finals.
For Mulwala, several Lions netballers also represented the Murray Netball League in the Open Netball team including Steph Hammond, Lara Langford and Amity Drayton with Narelle Donovan acting as Assistant coach.
MNL won round 2 against Northern FNL 22-10, had another win in round 5 against Mountain District NA 26-2, a close game against GV going down by 2, a draw with Bendigo FNL and a narrow loss to Hampden in round 8, 17 – 12.
Numerous Mulwala Lions footballers also represented the MFL in the 2023 Interleague Carnival at the Mooroopna Recreation Reserve between the Goulburn Murray Junior League, Bendigo Junior Football League and Murray Football Netball League showcasing the junior football talents.
