YMGCR Men's Nine Holers
Tuesday saw the men playing a 4BBB Stableford, where friendships are made or broken. On the Blue course, Keith Miller and Normie Prior teamed up to take the chocolates with a solid 25 points, edging new members Phil Newnham and Laurie Hammond into the runners-up position with 24 points.
Peter "Willo" Wilson and Ron "Ena" Sharples put up a great battle for third place with 23 points, while ball prizes went to Dave Holdsworth and Les Cross, and Rick Neilson and Paul Burke.
On the Red course, Artie Massey and Norm Coleman had a tight tussle on a countback with Lindsay Dunstan and Steve Williamson, with both pairs finishing all square on 26 points.
Even the countback failed to separate them, so it came down to the highest score on an individual hole, with Artie and Norm declared the winners.
Also claiming ball prizes with a great score of 25 were Neil Calder and Steve Pegg, along with the pairs of Tony Shead and Len Elliss, and Stuart Nixon and Joe Cilia.
Thursday produced the best turnout in over two years, with 80 players competing, and the scores were even tighter than Tuesday.
On the Blue course, a seven-way countback decided first place in favour of Bruce Anderson, with Phil Latham, Chas Hope, John Dixon, Kerry Pendergast, John Kolodziej and Joe Cilia all scoring 20 points. Steve Pegg, Peter Dowie and Ron Hocking also collected ball prizes.
On the Red course, Ian Nankervis won the day with 22 points, edging new member Graham Ridley by one point.
Tony Evans and Ron Sharples tied for the minor places with 20 points, while ball prizes went to Ray Douglas, Greg House, Dave Holdsworth, Steve Hutchinson, Mark Chalmers and Dini LePore.
Unfortunately, Stu Paterson forgot to put the cards in for his group, which may have cost him the win.
