Event organiser Tony Bennett said he was pleased the event, to be run from December 1 to 3, was returning closer to usual pre-COVID numbers.
“Registrations are going along nicely with just over 1730 entries on Monday, which is up on last year,” Tony said.
“With walk-up entries, we should see around 2,300 entries in total.
“Certainly not the 3000 we were getting pre-COVID, but certainly getting close.
“Weather-wise, it’s looking good, so we expect to see more entries over the weekend.
“Merv Hughs and Andrew Hart, the host of the popular television show Hook, Line and Sinker, along with Australia’s number one Cod tournament legend Thomas Pinter, will be in attendance over the weekend.”
Local electrician Brad Thompson with a nice 70cm Cod. One this size will get you in some additional prize draws during the comp.
Tony said the “Fishing and Outdoors Expo” held at the competition home base on the Mulwala Football Club’s Lonsdale Reserve will be significantly larger with something to look at for everybody who has an interest in fishing.
“It’s open to the public, and there will also be plenty of activities, including the popular Yamaha bikes for the kids,” Tony said.
“There will be a lucky door prize for entries, and for the kids, their entries will receive a couple of lures for their lucky door entry prize.”
Tony said the Australian Pro Casting Championships will also return, where several of Australia’s best tournament casters will go head-to-head against each other to take home the title.
Hobie has also come on board again as a major sponsor in the canoe and kayak fishing section. This section now carries the title of “Hobie – Australian Canoe and Kayak Cod Fishing Champion”.
The Cod Classic celebrates the opening of a new Murray Cod fishing season at the “Home of the Murray Cod” – Lake Mulwala.
The 2023 event will see 5 x Yamaha – Quintrex – Humminbird boating packages up for grabs, with over $100K in prizes. Amazingly, after the 2023 Cod Classic, 133 boating packages will have been given away through the event over the past 24 years.
Your ticket ($90 for adults, $45 for juniors) gets you a chance to win some of the many prizes on offer, with the majority being lucky door prizes. Also, a free ticket in the “Mega Raffle”. A free BBQ will be given to all competitors on Sunday afternoon.
