Rovers teams across both netball and football are contending for finals standings in the Picola League.
All the Rovers’ netball teams will be looking to consolidate their position in the top eight while all the football matches will be between teams in finals contention.
This includes the senior football, where the Rovers are in ninth on percentage but can’t afford to lose too much ground to the top eight teams.
They also have Dookie United and Tocumwal both one win or less behind them on the ladder.
The club will be building on last week’s performances hosting the Katandra Kats.
In the senior football coach Alex Hay said the team held Katandra well but didn’t capitalise as well as their opposition in the 26 point loss,
“Another tough game at the weekend.
“We knew going into it the quality that Katandra would produce and how they play. I thought that we did a pretty good job of nullifying the way that they wanted to play to some degree, but as all quality teams do, they found a way when it mattered.
“Defensively, I thought we were excellent, and the game really only came down to a few moments.
“A bounce of the ball here and a missed opportunity there probably cost us in the end, but to put yourself in the position to win is positive, we just have to find a way of finishing off our good work.”
The Rovers face another of this season’s strongest sides, third-placed Strathmerton who have only lost two games so far this season.
With a lot on the line, Hay said that Strathmerton pose another top-tier test for the side to take on.
“Strathy at home would be one of the tougher assignments in the league and even though we haven’t quite been able to close out games how we would have liked, there is a belief building in the group that it’s not far off really coming together, so this weekend is no better time than any to do it.
“Similar to the other top teams we’ve played over the last month, they are well coached, have a system that everyone played and a fair amount of quality on the park, but I’d also say that’s how I’d describe our game at the moment as well so it’s a challenge that we will be looking forward to.”
Ahead of this weekend, Hay said the team is still being weighed up ahead of tomorrow’s match.
“It is hard to say with selection at the moment.
“This time of year when all the little niggles build up, and we’re just managing, but hopefully that a few of our keys can return pending training Thursday evening (after the PT went to print).”
