The Wangaratta-based gelding has become one of the region’s standout country gallopers and is chasing a remarkable third Southern Riverina Cup double in less than two months.
Eamonn’s Memory claimed the Berrigan, Jerilderie and Deniliquin Cups in 2025. This year he again won at Jerilderie in September before securing consecutive Deniliquin Cup victories less than a fortnight ago.
Following that latest success at Deniliquin, part-owner Adrian Grantham confirmed the gelding's next target would be a second straight Berrigan Gold Cup on Derby Day.
The 1600m feature, sponsored by Baxter Transport and Namarang Farms, attracted 13 nominations when entries closed on Monday, with several recent rivals again set to cross paths with Eamonn’s Memory.
Among the challengers is the Saab Hasan-trained Harry Devil, who could be set for a rise in class after an impressive victory in easier company at Deniliquin.
Despite likely carrying one of the heaviest weights in the field, Eamonn’s Memory has already shown he can handle the challenge after carrying 63kg to victory at his most recent start.
The Berrigan Gold Cup is expected to again draw a large crowd from across the Southern Riverina, including many racegoers from Deniliquin, Jerilderie and surrounding districts.
Hosted by the Berrigan & District Race Club, the annual meeting has built a reputation as one of the region's premier country racing and social events.
Away from the track, Fashions on the Field will offer more than $4000 in prizes, while live music, trackside bars, gourmet catering, marquee hospitality and full TAB and bookmaker facilities will keep patrons entertained throughout the day.
The popular Berrigan 100m Dash will also return after the final race, with men and women competing for winner-takes-all $100 cash prizes in a sprint down the straight.
Gates open at 11am, with courtesy bus services operating throughout the day and coach services available from Tocumwal, Cobram, Barooga and Yarrawonga.
The Gold Cup remains one of the Southern Riverina's most anticipated race meetings, supported each year by sponsors, volunteers, committee members and community groups who help bring the event to life.
