Storm stars take to the course

Ex Melbourne Storm player and current Academy Coach Matt Duffie, close friend and business partner Tom Carroll, Melbourne Storm Owner Matt Tripp, CEO Justin Rodski and current players Ryan Papenhuyzen, Jahrome Hughes, Christian Welch and Jonah Pezet visited YMGCR last Tuesday for a hit of golf.

Local rugby league supporters who played a round of golf or ate at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort last Tuesday may have caught a glimpse of a few familiar faces.

Returning Melbourne Storm Captain and Prop Christian Welch, gun fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen, tough-nut halfback Jahrome Hughes and up and coming halfback Jonah Pezet all joined Melbourne Storm owner and Yarrawonga resident Matt Tripp in Yarrawonga for a hit of golf whilst on a break from their preseason training.

Storm players had just finished a gruelling two-week annual preseason camp in Geelong the week before and took advantage of a couple of days break by making their way up the Hume.

“Preseason is going well,” Mr Tripp said.

"We finished the camp then the boys had a couple of days off, so I brought a few of the boys who really enjoy their golf up to Yarra to play our courses here.

“We played Black Bull yesterday (Monday) and then the golf club today.

“The boys have had a ball and love the town so I am hoping to bring more up during the year when we can string a few days off together.”

The NRL season begins the first week in March with Storm taking on the Parramatta Eels in Sydney on Thursday, March 2.
