Yarrawonga Mens 9 Holers – Two holes in one!

Whilst scoring a hole-in-one is every golfer’s dream on Tuesday the Nine Holers were blessed with two of their members, Stuart Nixon and Phil Latham, performing this extraordinary feat on the same day.

On the Par 3 fourth on the Executive Blue course Stuart Nixon hit his ball so well that they thought it had flown over the green toward the fence and so searching began in earnest but to no avail, when a shout went out from the green that his ball was actually in the hole, and nobody was more surprised than Stuart.

Whilst this was happening out on the Red course ‘Fabulous’ Phil Latham struck a beautifully flighted iron to hit the green and watch his ball roll into the hole to the cheers of everyone in the group who witnessed this rare event.

Both golfers were supplied with a complimentary bottle of whisky and a plaque with the special ball attached.

Elsewhere on the day, Gary Tribe won the Blue with 22 points from Colin Cobb and Joe Cilia on 20 points, with Graeme Lavis leading a five-way countback from Rod Newman, Tony Evans, Stuart Nixon and Les Garbutt on 19.

On the Red, John Mason edged Terry Strickland and John Dixon on a countback with 17 hard earned points with Bill Hidson coming one behind on 16 with ball prizes going to 13.

Thursday’s second round saw Tony Shead take the honours on the Blue with a fantastic 25 points with six pars and some superb putting.

Coming in second was Bill Hidson with Terery Strickland heading a five-way countback on 18 from Dave Hall, Bruce Anderson, Bill Lowrie and Artie Massey.

On the Red, Geoff Burgess won the day with 16 points, edging Les Garbutt, John Hutchinson and Ted Latta on 15 with balls going to 12 on countback. Congratulations to Col Rosser for scoring two nearest-the-pins.
