In their first game of the 2023/2024 season at Stan Hargreaves Oval, the Lakers Under 16s won the toss and opted to bat.

With nine players available for selection, the team welcomed Tom Taylor, Darcy Hargreaves, and Taj Parker from the Under 14s.

Nate Sheridan and Jace Gove opened the innings, putting together a solid partnership of 21 runs before Sheridan was caught.

In the 12th over, Lucas Eales and Jobe Fraser came together, and they combined for an impressive 43-run partnership, with Fraser retiring on a well-earned 33.

Eales and Lucas Tonna continued the strong batting performance, contributing 32 runs before Eales also retired on 32.

The Lakers concluded their innings strongly, finishing at 3/117 after 20 overs.

In the bowling department, Tonna opened and made an immediate impact, taking a wicket in his very first over.

He ended his spell with figures of 1/7 from 3 overs. Gove also picked up a wicket, finishing with 1/8, thanks to a brilliant catch by Tonna.

Nate Sheridan was effective, claiming a wicket for just 1 run in his 1 over with a catch taken by Kade Michael.

Parker, Taylor, and Hargreaves all bowled an over and performed commendably.

The Lakers’ strong and disciplined bowling efforts kept Delatite to 3/78 from their 20 overs.

Under 12 Bulls record consecutive win

In a thrilling contest, the Yarrawonga Mulwala Under 12s Bulls faced off against the Benalla Bushrangers Blue, resulting in a well-fought victory for the Bulls.

The Bulls posted a formidable total of 5/94, while Benalla Blue managed 8/57 in their innings.

The young Bulls, batting first, got off to a flying start against a disciplined Benalla bowling attack.

The top-order trio of Blair Livingston Laing (16 not out), Hudson Hall (10), and Byron Dodd (17 not out) exhibited their skills by punishing the Benalla bowlers, hitting shots all around the ground.

The hard-hitting Isaac McLarty (10) and the stylish Finn O’Brien (9 not out) added to the total with their well-placed shots.

This collective effort allowed the Bulls to set a highly competitive target of 5/94.

The Bulls began their bowling innings by applying pressure on their opponents with accurate line and length deliveries and supported by excellent fielding from all players.

Zander Gallagher, with his impressive performance, claimed 2 wickets while Shivan Patel, in his first year of cricket, secured his first wicket.

The Bulls’ exceptional fielding and disciplined bowling put Benalla under duress, ultimately restricting them to a total of 57 runs before they were all out.

This victory marked the Bulls’ second consecutive win, and it is a testament to their dedication and teamwork.

Under 12 Rams showcase effort

The Under 12 Rams went head-to-head with Benalla Green in a challenging match this week. Batting first, the Rams managed to score 6/55 from their allotted 20 overs.

The top scorers included Finn Mitchell, with a notable contribution, closely followed by George Kennedy and Luke Van Den Bosch.

Subsequently, the Lakers took to the field with the objective of defending their 55 runs.

Jordan Knight opened the bowling and made an impact by taking a wicket. Will Cruikshank and Finn Mitchell also joined the wicket-takers list.

Additionally, George Kennedy bowled an impressive spell, clinching 2 wickets. In the end, the Benalla Green side finished their innings at 5/89 after their 20 overs.

The match showcased a commendable effort from both teams, well done Rams! Baaaaa.
