The Under 16s Lakers travelled to Beechworth on Saturday and after winning the toss and electing to bat on a dewy outfield, they got off to a great start.
The opening pair of Archer Colvin and Lucas Tonna dug in and persevered with the Beechworth fielding and bowling strong early, swinging a fair bit but the Lakers were in strong position getting to drinks 0/65 before a late innings collapse saw the side out for 110 from 34.1 overs.
Well done to Lucas Tonna with a well fought 41 and Archer Colvin who had to dig out some decent swinging Yorkers early on his way to 28.
Will Murphy had a little cameo at the end with 11. The team have their last chance to confirm a finals spot this Saturday and will need to work hard with the ball and in the field to make sure it is not the end of their season.

Bulls warm up for Semi Final
Yarrawonga Mulwala Bulls 3/149 def Benalla Bushrangers 4/94.
The Yarrawonga Mulwala Bulls finished off the home and away season with a strong win against Benalla Bushrangers Blue at Stan Hargreaves Oval on Saturday.
The game looked as though it was going to have a delayed start with some of Benalla’s players stuck in roadworks on the way to the game.
Luckily everything turned out ok and the match started as scheduled with the Bulls batting first.
A new opening pair of Zander and Layken strode to the crease ready to prove their wares. Zander fell early to a good delivery, which bought Kirsty to the crease.
Kirsty struck the ball as well as she has all year hitting two fours on her way to 13 not out her highest score of the season, great job Kirsty.
Layken also batted really strongly with one of his best innings of the season, retiring on 8 runs including one nicely hit boundary.
From here Blair and Byron really increased the run rate with Dodd hitting the ball to all parts of the ground on his way to 26 off only 10 deliveries, including five boundaries and a six, which was exactly what the side needed.
Blair also had a really strong innings scoring 25 from 18 balls including three boundaries.
Benji (17 retired), Isaac (9 retired) and Finn (8 retired) all kept the scoreboard ticking over.
Murph was unfortunately ran out for a duck, but this was all forgotten later in the day when he reeled in an 89cm cod out the river, great job Murph!
Hudson gave the Bulls the cherry on top at the end of the innings dispatching boundaries at will, with a quick fire 25 not out of 12 balls including a huge six!
The final total for the Bulls was an imposing 149.
The run chase for Benalla was going to take a big effort and early on things were looking ominous with some lusty hitting from Tom Snell.
After his innings the Bulls bowlers started to get on top. It wasn’t until the seventh over that the Bulls got there first scalp, with a cracking yorker from Issac McLarty making a mess of the stumps.
Another wicket followed in the next over with a catch of the season contender from Byron off the bowling of Zander.
The wicket was a great reward for Zander’s line and length bowling. A run out in the next over then had Benalla on the ropes.
Blair picked up a wicket in the last over of the game to finish off one his best games of the season. Benalla finished on 4 for 94 after their allotted 20 overs.
Next Saturday the Bulls face off against Benalla Blue for the second week in a row in a knockout semifinal.
Make sure you come down to Stan Hargreaves Oval at 9am to cheer the team on and hopefully get them through to the grand final!
Rams win final over thriller
Rovers United Bruck Yellow 6/91 def by Yarrawonga Mulwala Rams 8/92.
The Rams were away to Rovers United Bruck Yellow for the final game of the season.
The North Wangaratta ground was presented in perfect conditions and the boys had no hesitation in batting first after winning the bat flip.
All of the top 5 batsmen in Eamon Pickering, Finn Mitchell, Luke Van Den Bosch, Tathila Suriyapathiranalage Don and Jordan Knight all made promising starts, before falling to some sharp fielding by the opposition.
After a middle order slump, the tail wagged to help the Rams reach a competitive total of 8/92 from their allocated 20 overs.
With the temperature starting to rise quite quickly and little breeze, the playing conditions became quite challenging for the boys.
It was going to take a whole team effort to restrict the opposition under the Rams score.
Needing to bowl well to defend their total, the Rams knew they had to take early wickets. Lachie Brown bowled with control and finished with 2 for 11 off his two overs.
He was well supported by George Kennedy and Jordan Knight who each picked up a wicket. After handing the keeping duties over at the drinks break, Eamon Pickering entered the attack and bowled a fantastic over.
He snared two wickets in a row and was so close to claiming three in succession, finishing with 2/2 off his over.
All of the Rams fielders backed up each and every bowler, which was the deciding factor in the final over.
Hugo Bott bowled impressively to restrict the RUB batsmen, leading the Rams to a one run victory.
The Rams finished the home and away season in fifth position, with each and everyone of the boys making great progress across the season.
Well done to all players and good luck to the Bulls in the finals.
