The Benalla Hockey Club/SYC under-16s had a well-timed bye at the weekend, using the week off in the final round to regroup ahead of a huge finals campaign, and will return to the field refreshed and ready for their semi-final against GVGS next week.
The pair have met three times in 2026, and while the first clash saw Benalla go down 1-10, they have closed the gap on each occasion since then, with the second meeting a 0-6 defeat before taking it right up to the second-placed side in round 14, narrowly going down 3-4.
BHC/SYC will look to finally defeat GVGS when they meet at 12pm this Saturday, with the winner advancing to the grand final at 11:45am on Saturday, September 12.
Women’s SYC vs Echuca

The SYC Women had a fun game against Echuca on Saturday, spending most of the game in defence.
Jacinta made a number of great runs up the field and into the attacking circle along the base line, teaming up with Taya and Emily to switch the ball around but unable to score.
Alternating between full- and half-back, Amber ran hard in the warm weather, turning the ball over before the circle and keeping pressure on Echuca’s wings.
As half-back, Lee created good plays down the wing from free hits and made some critical clearances in the defensive circle.
Penalty corners abounded, with Amber powerfully halting multiple hits on goal as first runner, and Jacinta clearing the ball from the circle.
SYC held Echuca until the final minutes of the first half, when two quick goals set the scene for the 4-0 loss.
The Women meet Mooroopna in the semi-final next Saturday, September 5.
