The annual Captain v President, now Golf v House 4BBB Matchplay Day, was held in perfect weather last week.
The House Team turned the tables from last year, recording a resounding win, 12 matches to 7, to gain bragging rights for 2026. Congratulations went to Team House.
The club also appreciated its Match Committee and thanked them for their dedicated work with ladies’ golf.
Kerryn Eade and Jane Cronk were congratulated for their recent holes-in-one.
Raffles held recently, along with donations, resulted in a cheque of $5,083.98 being presented to a delighted Friends in Common president, Lesley Shead, and charity member, Julie Kennett.
Friends in Common president, Lesley Shead, thanked Pepsi, who donated $2,000, the men’s golfers who bought $1,200 worth of raffle tickets and won lots of prizes, and the huge contribution on the day from the lady golfers of more than $1,600.
“This amount of money will enable Friends in Common to continue supporting members of the community through cancer treatment,” Lesley said.
The group also paid its final respects to six former lady members who have passed away during the past 12 months. Karen Droop put together some memories and shared them with the group, who could appreciate the contributions these members had made.
Dessert, after soup and sandwiches, came in the form of yummy Julie Kirchen-made cupcakes and birthday cake for a special “0” birthday. Thank you, Carol Tytler, for turning 80 in a week or so. The club wishes her all the very best.
