Public submissions to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority’s Basin Plan Review 2026 close at 5pm on Friday, May 1, with the outcome expected to shape water and river management for the next decade.
Goulburn‑Murray Water managing director Charmaine Quick said the review would have wide‑ranging impacts across northern Victoria.
“The review will shape water policy, recovery targets, and management priorities across the basin for the next decade and beyond,” Ms Quick said.
“It will directly affect farm viability, regional economies, and community life for all residents in northern Victoria.”
Ms Quick said making a submission was straightforward, with resources available through G-MW’s website.
“Your voice matters. Every submission matters. It only takes less than 15 minutes to have your say,” she said.
Greater Shepparton City Council has also intensified its advocacy efforts, ramping up targeted engagement with community, industry and government ahead of the deadline.
As part of the MDBA’s formal consultation process, City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali, along with councillors and council staff, met with representatives from the MDBA, the Australian and Victorian governments and the Murray-Darling Association to outline local priorities and concerns.
The discussions will inform council’s formal submission and help support local stakeholders preparing their own.
Cr Sali said strong advocacy was essential to protect regional communities and agriculture.
“Every litre of water supports our farmers, local jobs and businesses, and underpins the strength of our regional economy,” he said.
Council is urging residents and industry groups to make submissions before the deadline.
