Yarrawonga Bowls Club
Quite a busy week at the bowls club with the scheduled games, pennant games, inter-club championship rounds and the Christmas party all being held.
The results of the pennant matches played this week are Mid-Week Pennant Yarrawonga played Rutherglen with the result being 90/58 in Yarrawonga’s favour.
Week-End Pennant A1’s played Kiewa at Yarrawonga with the result being 92/78 in Yarrawonga’s favour. A3’s played YMGCR at YMGCR with the results being 103/91 in Yarrawonga’s favour. The B1’s played Moira at Yarrawonga with the result of this match being 76/57 in Yarrawonga’s favour
The results of the Nominated Pairs 2-4-2 played on Monday, December 4 were Brian Batty and Alan Tomlinson the runners up were Jock Mc Qualter and Liz Murdoch the Jackpot was won by Brian and Alan.
The club held their 2 Bowl Triples Tournaments on Wednesday, December 6 and the winners of the day were Ron Makin, Gary Polkinghorne and Jan Hermassoo, the runners up were Vic Brincat, Neil Lovell and Doug Wheeler, third place went to Jock McQualter, Tony Forristal and Noeline Borg. Best First Game went to Terry Johnstone’s team, Best 2nd game winner went to Don Ellis’s team, best third Game went to Max Scanlon’s team and best forth game went to Robert Tait’s team.
On Thursday night the club played barefoot bowls: results of the game were not listed in the day book.
On Sunday the semi-final of the men’s and ladies singles championship was played and the winners of this round were Kevin Evans, and Tyson Cromie, Evelyn Calder and Jan Hermassoo. They will now play the finals on 17th December at 10am.
YMGC
Tuesday was theYMGCR 1 played Wodonga in one of the games of the year; they had a great win 12/76 to 2/55.
Greg Green had a tough battle all day to win 25/24, Anne Miles had a fantastic win 34/13 and Laureen Smith going down on the last bowl 17/18, this keeps YMGCR1 on top of the ladder. YMGCR 2 was far too strong for Corowa winning 12/74 to2/63. Rob Hummel went down 16/31 Kerry Kinnane winning 26/16 and Bob Adams having a solid win 32/16, this takes them to 6th on the table. YMGCR A3 played Moyhu winning 14/95 to 0/33, Siggi Rempal having a comfortable win 30/8, Bob Liddell winning 26/17 and Les Balfour having a great win 39/8, and are currently on top of the table. The B1 ‘s played Rutherglen and losing 2/62 to 12/73, Peter Bellis going down 24/27 Robyn Balfour losing 17/30 and Carolyn Boston winning 21/16 . This just keeps them out of the final four.
Wednesday there were  20 bowlers playing in the Wednesday 2 bowl pairs , with three two game winners, first went to Peter Lidgerwood and Bill Butterworth with +12 , runners up with +9 were Bob Fiddes and Gavin Borwick , the jackpot failed to go off.
Thursday had only 12 players, winners were Sue Evans and Marie Whitehead with +12, runners up were Marry Essex and Rhonda Irvine with +8. Judy Wenzel and Lois Ellis won the jackpot.
The eighth round of week end pennant saw the A1 take on Rutherglen, with strong wins from Jimmy LeFevre rink 35/19 and Garry Sanders winning 37/16, Rod Jones 32/27 and Ray Irvine playing out a 21/21 draw, this keeps them 2 games clear in the four. The A3 had a tough battle with Yarrawonga and got beaten 4/91 to 14/103. Good wins to Vic Brincat 28/24 and Bob Adams 25/23 could not cover the losses by Bill Jenkins 20/34 and Robert Lidgerwood 18/22, this has dropped them down to third.
The A4’s played Swanpool, with a close battle all day young skip Siggi Rempal playing some fantastic bowls over the last few ends got the home team over the line 14/103 to 4/101. Siggi winning 30/22 and Tony Durkin come from behind win 28/24. Les Balfour losing 23/28 and Ray Brown going down 22/27, this keeps them second on the ladder.
The all concurring B2 travelled to Benalla and record another win 12/75 to 2/60, Bob Tett keeps on winning getting up 31/17 .Kenny Barnes winning 25/19 and Noel Miller going down 19/24.They are now a game clear on top. The B3 travelled all the way to Bright losing 2/43 to12/95, Robyn Balfour going down 8/40 , Marry Essex 13/34 and the only shining light was to our last minute fill skip in Marcia McGrillen winning 22/21.
On Sunday, the club had a few girls play in the State Pairs, well done to Claire Sanders and Anne Miles on progressing through to the next round.
Just to update a bit of housekeeping from the Victorian Open, the ladies once again have a great tournament with Claire Sanders making the final 16 in the singles, Anne Miles making the last 32. Anne and Claire were then joined by Laureen Smith in the triples and made the final 16.
The men were represented with Garry Sanders making to the last 32 and Peter Velardo made it to the last 64 in the singles. Claire and Garry then played in the mixed pairs and finished in the last 16, well done to all our team mates on representing YMGCR and performing at such a high level.
Last week Anne ,Claire, Shirley Hummel were joined by Kylie Whitehead from Wodonga to play in the National Championships in Merimbula, unfortunately the girls lost their first game by 1 and then lost the second to put them out of the event. But all was not lost as they then hit the beaches to work on their sun tans. YMGCR would like to congratulate Wodonga’s Kylie Whitehead on winning the National Singles final.
This week Anne Miles skipped for Victoria against Tasmania, playing five tests Anne’s rink won every game, well done champ.
ClubMulwala Outdoor Bowls
The bowls season continues at a pace leading up to the fast approaching Christmas break.
Tuesday pennant was played in perfect conditions for bowls;
A4 travelled to Benalla where the competition proved to be very strong, however they came away with a great win
B1 hosted Swanpool who proved to be too strong on the day.
Saturday pennant saw our A4 team travel to Milawa where they found the home team much too strong.
Club men’s and ladies single championship matches got underway this week, some very tight matches were played with Norm Elford, Eugene, Hodson, Russell Cook, and John Thurling progressing so far into the third round of the men’s and Kaye Smith, and Bev Norwood progressing in the ladies, further matches are to be played on Thursday 14th December.

Barefoot Bowls.
The club is running barefoot bowls over the Christmas New Year holiday period, they will be held on 28th December, 3rd and 11th of January at 6.30pm.
This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to have a great family night out to come along and enjoy some fun bowls. Bowls will be provided as needed, with a special rink and bowls made available for smaller children.
Club members will be on hand to provide assistance.
There will be 2 games of 8 ends. The cost of $7.00 per person will include a sausage in bread with drinks available for purchase. All levels of bowlers are invited to come along and have a great night of fun.
Practice is now up and running each Thursday from 3.30pm onwards, for those members who work practice will still be going well after 5.00pm so don’t miss out. There will be a coach available to answer any questions or assist all in improving their skills.
