Some 250 people attended the golfing legends sportsman’s night at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.
Master of Ceremonies Terry Price, himself an excellent golf professional, described the championship at YMGCR as “a great event on the calendar”.
He presented the club, via vice-captain Peter Warner, a large framed certificate of thanks from Ladbrokes PGA Legends Tour and containing photographs of three great senior legends, Peter Senior, Rodger Davis and Mike Harwood.
“This place is very dear to our hearts and the number of professionals here show the extent to which professionals hold this event in their hearts,” the MC said.
“We’ve got mates here and thank you for the hospitality to us.”
Fowler said he has his sights set on the European Seniors Tour in April, with particularly big tournaments in England and the USA with massive crowds and overall $2 million to $4 million prizemoney up for grabs.
But the highly decorated man, popularly known as ‘Chook’ mentioned the significance of being in Yarrawonga Mulwala.
“Being here is an integral part of getting ready for the main part of the year,” he said. “I’m glad to be here and I compliment you on your courses.”
Lonard, a good mate of local Pro Shop chief and tournament director Evan Droop, recalled a lighter moment yesteryear at Royal Melbourne Golf Club when the pair played together, with a slow playing partner.
Mezera drew interesting contrasts between racing cars and playing golf, after taking up the latter sport later in life. A star with both sports, he runs a driving school and hits a terrific golf ball.
It was an excellent atmosphere in YMGCR’s flexible and extended Willow Room with attendees tucking into a high quality three-course meal.
All speakers named and praised the event’s major sponsors and other sponsors who were so integral to the success of the championship.
