“Homeowners who will be affected by any regulatory changes can provide feedback on the amendments over the next month,” Mr McCurdy said.
The proposed regulations include the mandatory requirement for owners of private swimming pools and spas to register them with their local council, as well as to engage a registered building surveyor or inspector to inspect and certify the compliance of safety barriers every three years.
The regulations, as well as a Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) that examines the costs and benefits of the proposed regulations and alternative options that were considered, can be viewed online at engage.vic.gov.au/new-safety-standards-private-swimming-pools-and-spas.
Mr McCurdy said the requirements proposed are significant and will affect pool and spa owners across the Ovens Valley electorate.
“It’s important to view the proposals and have your say,” he said.
Stakeholders can also make a submission at the above web address during the consultation period, which is open until 5pm on September, 6 2019.
