Ovens Valley MP, Tim McCurdy presented the petition on Tuesday last week putting local concerns on the official record.
Mr McCurdy said the strong response demonstrated just how concerned locals were about the increasingly busy intersection.
“Yarrawonga is growing rapidly, and with the establishment of Bunnings, Aldi and the recent opening of Coles, traffic movements around this intersection have increased significantly,” he said.
“Residents have told me about frequent near misses, regular accidents and growing congestion.
“These concerns cannot simply be ignored until someone is seriously injured.”
The petition calls on the Minister for Roads and Road Safety to urgently assess the intersection and fund appropriate safety upgrades, including traffic controls and other infrastructure improvements necessary to protect motorists, pedestrians and local families.
“I want to sincerely thank every person who took the time to sign the petition,” Mr McCurdy said.
“669 signatures send a clear message: our community wants action.
“I will continue to advocate strongly for the safety improvements Yarrawonga deserves and ensure the Allan Labor Government hears this community loud and clear.”
