Students have already started attending region shows to build up another active year of experiences, with successes at Rochester and Nathalia at the end of February.
The show at Rochester was another great opportunity for the class to show off all they have learnt, worked toward and been able to achieve thus far.
Teacher Robyn O’Leary said the students handled the competition well.
“We had a great show. We had never been to the Rochester Show before, so it was a nice experience.
“Taking eight students and nine head of cattle, we were kept busy and out of trouble for the weekend.
Results from Rochester were strong for Finley.
In the heifer classic, Ava Schlink placed third out of eight exhibits with FHS Valentina.
Lindsey Matheson placed second out of 11 with FHS Unreal.
In hot conditions on day two of the show, Maggie Bramley placed third out of five with the school steer FHS Velocity.
In heifers 12-15 months, there were six exhibits entered, and Indie Matheson placed fourth with FHS Valentina and Gemma Wise placed fifth with FHS Verity.
In the heifer class 18-20 months, there were three exhibits, in which Ava Schlink placed first with FHS Unreal, and Lilly McNamara was third with FHS Utopia.
In the best two junior heifers, Finley placed second in a very big class. Ava and Lilly teamed up to parade Unreal and Utopia.
In the cows class 20-24 months, Lindsey placed second with FHS Ursula.
Kate Tilley paraded FHS Victory into first place against two other exhibits in the bull 12-15 month class.
And in the bull 15-18 month class, Maggie and FHS Unstoppable won in a massive class of nine.
Finley High went on to take out the Reserve Champion Junior Bull title, and Kate and Maggie teamed up with FHS Victory and FHS Unstoppable to win the best two junior bull class over three other exhibits.
The last cattle class was a group of three, with Finley High getting two places.
Maggie and Unstoppable, Lindsey and Ursula and Gemma and Unreal took out first place.
Kate and Victory, Indie and Valentina and Bridie Dawes and Verity took out fourth place.
In paraders class for under-15s, Ava placed first, Indie placed fifth and Bridie placed sixth.
In the 15 and over class, Maggie took out second, Lindsey third, Kate fourth, Lilly fifth, and Gemma sixth.
“These were large classes of paraders, and the students from Finley High School did very well to perform at a high level against some great agricultural programs,” Mrs O’Leary said.
