A love for knitting and crochet that began as a lifeline during COVID-19 lockdowns has now become a livelihood for Shepparton’s Danielle Beckley.

The Twisted Stitcher will open in Wyndham Mall on Wednesday, August 27, stocking yarn, craft materials and goods.
After attending four to six markets a month since October 2025, Ms Beckley felt it was time to move to a permanent space.
“Having a shop was always the goal,” she said.
“Living in Shepparton, there’s just nothing specialised here for knitting and crocheting.”
Her market stall helped Ms Beckley understand what locals wanted, with quality at the heart of her business.
“I don’t just want to sell you something for the sake of selling you something. I want to sell you something that you’re going to love, use and cherish.”
Ms Beckley said most of her products were sourced from Australian companies and other small businesses.
Danielle Beckley is excited to take her business, The Twisted Stitcher, to the next level through a physical store.

The store will also become the home of Ms Beckley’s growing Craft Club, which brings locals together through casual events.
“I just want it to be a welcoming environment, very inclusive, where people can come in and feel comfortable,” she said.
“It’s going to be a really cosy and ... a little bit of a refuge.
“People do want that sense of community.”
Having taught herself to crochet during lockdown, Ms Beckley knows the comfort crafts can bring.
“Instead of sitting on the couch doom-scrolling, you’re creating something with your hands,” she said.
“It’s so good for your mental health.”
She hopes to eventually host workshops teaching knitting, crochet and specific techniques to community members.
“The thing that I love about knitting and crochet is that anybody can do it, it doesn’t discriminate,” she said.
“I’ve had young boys come and buy yarn … and then you’ve got people from the older generation who have been doing it for decades, and everyone in between.”
The Twisted Stitcher will open from 10am to 5pm on Wednesday, August 27, at 7/294 Wyndham St, Shepparton.
