Working as a community support worker for Intereach in Echuca, Ms Ferrinda helps community members and their families navigate the aged care system seamlessly.
On Friday, August 7, Australia will celebrate Aged Care Employee Day, recognising hard workers in the aged care sector such as Ms Ferrinda, who take extra care to ensure the wellbeing of our relatives and loved ones.
With aged care employment accounting for the third-highest proportion of Echuca’s workforce according to the 2021 Census, there are a great many dedicated people worth celebrating.
One such employee is Ms Ferrinda, who believes quality care starts with connection.
"I love building meaningful relationships with clients where they feel comfortable and where all their amazing memories have been created," she said.
"I help them where they need it, but don't take over unless necessary. They are still independent, but I'm right there behind them to assist.
"I build trust by listening, by being reliable, respectful and patient, understanding that they have routines, goals and preferences that need to be met and respected.”
With Campaspe's ageing population continuing to grow – roughly one in four residents now over 65 – the need for skilled aged care workers like Ms Ferrinda has never been greater.
Intereach co-chief executive Yvette Buhagiar said Aged Care Employee Day was a meaningful day of recognition for the dedicated aged care workforce.
“Their impact extends far beyond the services they deliver,” she said.
“Whether they're providing direct support, co-ordinating services, driving clients to appointments or helping families navigate the aged care system,” she said.
“They build trusted relationships, reduce social isolation and help people remain connected to the communities they love.”
Aged care organisations across the region will come together on Friday, August 7 to honour their staff with a range of events and activities, shining a well-deserved spotlight on those who care for our community every day.
