Wednesday Social Bowls
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
Forty-four bowlers, including two visitors from Maffra, turned out last Wednesday, 20 May. The greens were running well, and both greens were in play.
The winners of the winning rink first prize were Garry Seamer and Chris Horne, who shared $100.00 and also won a drink card each.
The second winning rink prize was won by Tony Durkin and Norm Windebank, who shared $70.00.
Maffra visitors Jennie and Mike Chislett shared the losing rink consolation prize of $50.00. Well done to Jennie and Mike, and it is hoped they enjoyed their time at YMGCR.
The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $25.00 was won by Liliana Borwick, and the second Lucky Number raffle prize of $15.00 was won by Nicole Smith.
Even though participant numbers have been very strong over the last few weeks, there is always room for more players.
The format is 3 bowl nominated pairs, played over 22 ends.
The cost to play is $10.00 per player, and the prize money is some of the best, if not the best, on offer for social bowls in the region.
So why not place names on the entry sheets at the Bowls Office.
Single entries and visitors from neighbouring clubs, and further afield, are always welcome.
Single entries and visitors are asked to include a contact telephone number when placing names on the entry sheets.
Friday Social Bowls
Cool but fine weather greeted the 52 players who turned out last Friday, 22 May, for Friday Social Bowls.
Both greens were in play, and the games were played in the east/west orientation.
Some great tunes were also pounding out, which always added to the atmosphere and, while not speaking for all players, the author certainly enjoyed the music while bowling.
Finding conditions on rink 9 to their liking were the team of Chris Horne and Greg Green, who won the first prize of $140.00.
Also finding conditions to their favour on the east green were David Irvine and Anthony Clota, who blazed a trail into second place.
David and Anthony shared $110.00 for their troubles.
Number 9 proved lucky for the first losing rink consolation prize winners, Judy Leeson and Allan Goudge, who had played first prize winners Greg Green and Chris Horne on rink 9, and shared $70.00.
The second losing rink consolation prize, also of $70.00, was shared by the team of Caroline Reilly and Dot.
The selection of number 71 proved a wise choice for Wayne Lowrie, who won the first Lucky Number prize of a drink card and $25.00.
The second Lucky Number prize of $25.00 was won by Noel Millar.
Sunday Funday Bowls
Numbers are increasing for Sunday Funday Social Bowls, which is great news.
Thirty-two players turned out on Sunday, 24 May.
After only a few weeks of reintroducing the Sunday Fundays, it is probably worth talking about the concept again.
The games start at 1.00pm.
The cost per player is $5.00.
The format is single entry 2 x 4 x 2 pairs played over 14 ends.
All YMGCR bowlers are welcome to play, and weekly entry sheets are always up on the Bowls Office notice board.
The organisers try to team up an experienced player with one of the club’s less experienced players.
The experienced players pass on tips to their teammates concerning mat placement, jack rolling, scoring, tactics and game management.
Prior to the game starting, there is a draw to the spider, which gets the fun underway.
This week’s first prize winners, who shared $40.00 for their troubles, were Norm Windebank and Nicole Smith.
The second-place winning rink prize went to Sue Beca and Terry Cartwright, who shared $20.00.
The losing rink consolation prize of $10.00 was won by Bruce Davie and Craig Jackson.
The first Lucky Number prize of $15.00 was won by Bruce Davie, and the second Lucky Number prize of $10.00 was won by Terry Cartwright.
Until next week, good bowling.

Tungamah Bowls Club
The Annual General Meeting was held at the local Tungamah Hotel and was attended by many players and interested supporters.
President Andrew O’Halloran welcomed all to the meeting and gave a concise report on the successful year the club had enjoyed, thanking all participants for jobs well done.
Vice President John Hemphill took the chair.
Newly elected office bearers and committee members for the 2026/27 bowls season are:
President Andrew O’Halloran.
Vice President Michael Sheahan.
Secretary Diane Sampson.
Treasurer Robert Browning.
Directors Ian Britnall, Paul Wellington, Mal King, John Hemphill, Jeff Armstrong and Kerry Ralph.
60 and Over representatives Richard Thomson and Mick Sheahan.
Greens committee members Grahame Sampson, Richard Thomson, Mick Sheahan and Allan Ralph.
Other committees will be elected at the next General Meeting on August 11.
Heated discussion continues regarding the O and M Pennant Committee decision to change the team format of A and 3 divisions for the 2026/27 season.
It is believed this decision needs to be overturned so smaller clubs have the chance to continue being competitive.
Larger clubs will drop four players from their A team to the B’s and from the B’s further down, creating a snowball effect and strengthening the lower teams of these larger clubs.
Players are encouraged to discuss the issue with teammates, particularly those who may miss out.
Can they drop back to a lower division? Will they get a game? Will they move clubs? Will they give up bowls?
There is concern that this move will not help smaller clubs, and supporters are encouraged to ask the Murray Association for its experience.
