The Bears head into the Picola League bye full of confidence after a strong second-half surge helped seal a convincing 37-point win over Picola United.
Round 12 saw the Bears back on home turf needing a big win to remain in contention for finals.
The Bears got off to a solid start, opening up a handy 16-point lead at quarter time before Picola fought back in the second term to close the margin to just four points at the main break.
Whatever was said at half time certainly did the trick, with Tungamah lifting the intensity after the long break.
The midfield got on top, the defence stood tall, and the forwards capitalised as the Bears piled on five goals in the third quarter to take control before finishing strongly in the last.
Glenn Dominick produced another stellar performance, earning best-on-ground honours after a dominant display around the contest. His work rate and impact all day set the standard for the side.
It was also fantastic to welcome back the unmistakable Brandon Symes.
The big redhead did not miss a beat, booting three goals and reminding everyone of the quality he brings to the forward line.
Brush Haebich was at his dangerous best in front of goal, finishing with six majors, while Jacob Adkins worked tirelessly through the midfield.
Lach Phillips continued his outstanding season with another polished performance, and Josh Cheek was influential all over the ground.
Young Luke O’Brien showed plenty of promise with another composed performance, while Archie Doyle never stopped competing and gave his all from the first bounce to the final siren.
The Bears now head into the bye sitting eighth on the ladder and full of confidence as they continue to build momentum in the second half of the season.
Reserves
Tungamah 18.17 - 125 def Picola 1.0 - 6
With sunshine overhead and not a breath of wind, the Ressies were robbed of their usual excuses.
There would be no blaming the conditions, and the legends were forced to get creative with excuses.
The Lunchtime Legends wasted no time putting Picola to the sword, cruising to a 125-6 victory.
The only bloke happier than the coaches would have been Rangi, who was reportedly spotted checking his annual leave balance to make sure September was still free.
Big Jim’s knees continue to be one of modern medicine’s great mysteries.
At this point, Kev’s training deserves canonisation after another miracle resurrection.
The old boy wandered out and casually slotted 10 goals, although he still kicked them at about 50 per cent, proving even miracles have room for improvement.
The scary part is he left another 10 out there.
The Playa of old was back to his damaging best.
He was everywhere, except the back flank where the whiteboard had him named, passing midfielders and forwards on his way deep inside Tungamah’s attacking 50.
With very little happening in defence, Lovell reached for the old Shane Gillies and wandered off early.
Some are calling it precautionary, while others reckon conceding the opposition’s only goal was enough to convince him he had seen all he needed.
Brenno became the first footballer in recorded history to actively sprint towards an opponent just to hand out a stiff arm.
Unfortunately, his shoulder was not quite as enthusiastic and promptly clocked off for the afternoon.
A double attempt at emergency to get it back in might have him learning the art of the handball on his return.
Big J. Schultz bent through a beauty before celebrating like he had just kicked the winner in a grand final.
He was last seen still celebrating heading through St James.
The shoulder that copped a workout during the celebrations required more ice than the celebration.
The team was wrapped up, though, when he copped one high, and the intention was so obvious the opponent could have sent him a calendar invite.
He looked like William Thatcher in the jousting final.
Blaize announced his return in style, somehow managing to send three different objects in three different directions.
The ball dribbled one way, the boot launched another, and his intended target was left wondering what exactly he had just witnessed.
It is a unique skill set.
The Lunchtime Legends continue to roll, the percentage keeps climbing, and with blokes coming back from injury and holidays, there might be a few nervous looks at the Thursday night team sheet.
Four points, another solid win, and another reminder that this side is building nicely at exactly the right time of year.

Tungamah 9.10 - 64 def Picola 4.5 - 29
Back on home turf with perfect weather, there were no excuses to have a bad day at the footy.
The young lads took on Picola in what was sure to be an evenly poised match.
Tungamah started well in the first quarter, moving the ball smoothly, but Picola showed it was there to play and play hard, with both teams fairly evenly matched across the field.
Tungamah took a 15 to 8 lead at quarter time.
The second quarter became even more physical but was played in great spirit.
Tungamah displayed many forward ball movements but was struggling to apply scoreboard pressure due to inaccurate kicking at goal.
By half time, the score was 3.8 (26) to 2.2 (14).
At half time, the coaches reassured the young Bears that they were doing well and just needed to stick to their game plan, with the rewards to come.
In the third quarter, that is exactly what they did, with the boys’ skills and fitness really shining through.
Going into the three-quarter-time break, Tungamah was up by 24 points.
In the last quarter, the boys really put the accelerator down, kicking four straight goals to Picola’s two to eventually run away with a 35-point win in what was a great, tight tussle.
It was fabulous to see Tungamah run away with it at the end in what was a good character-building game.

Tungamah 12.4 - 76 def Picola 0.1 - 1
Picola travelled to the Pit on a sunny winter’s morning, with the young Bears keen to get redemption for their preliminary final loss last year to the Blues.
The focus was on tackle pressure, and the boys set a high bar with 20 in the first quarter.
It began in the middle with Chase Jarjoura showcasing his rugby league background, consistently sticking tackles and winning first possession.
Co-captain Judd Haebich followed suit while also hitting the scoreboard with three goals.
Jameson Dickins and Xav Whiting were tearing it up on the wings, with their run and carry a highlight of the day.
Noah Lawless was making his presence felt in the air at half-forward, crashing packs and setting up scoring opportunities.
Tyler Buerckner was rock solid at half-back, consistently winning the ball back for the Bears, and pushed forward in the second half for two goals.
Rumour has it he has not kicked a career point yet.
Julian Johnson, Leo Green, Linc Ridley and Kobi Dickins all put their hands up to play for Picola at various stages, so well done to the boys.
In the end, the boys ran away with a great win.
Next week the team will enjoy a bye before attacking the back half of the year.

The Mighty Fifths
A freezing start to the day greeted the team, but, as per usual, this side was ready to go.
The game started pretty tightly from both sides before Tungamah went bang and piled on five goals in a row through Marc, Knox, Tank, Ernie and Dom.
Picola was not giving up and made it a real contest.
Kobi Mid was having his best game of the year.
Koah Parish’s tackling was unbelievable, and his brother Jett had some great moments as well.
Tank gave the team his best Jezza Cameron celebration after his left-foot banana goal.
It was another great game by this group.
The mums got the job of picking the best today, and the honours went to Kobi Mid, Jett, Koah, Tank and Marc.
Netball
A Grade
Tungamah 50 def Picola 28
The Bears hosted Picola United on a warm winter’s day and got off to a strong start on Saturday, taking control of the game early to lead 14-4 at the first break.
Strong defensive pressure and patient ball movement saw the margin extend to 16 goals by half time.
A tightly contested third quarter saw the margin reduced to 14 at the final change.
Tungamah responded well in the last quarter, regrouping to finish strongly and record a convincing 22-goal victory.
The positive talk across the court and the willingness to continually back each other were highlights of the performance.
A big thank you goes to Lauren, Emily, Tahnee and Stacey for stepping up and helping the team out this week.

Tungamah 49 def Picola 32
A slow start saw the first quarter tightly contested, with the scores locked at 12-12 at the first break.
From there, the Bears settled into their rhythm and began to play their brand of netball.
Composed and patient ball movement, combined with plenty of well-timed intercepts, allowed Tungamah to take control of the match.
The Bears won the second quarter by six goals, the third by seven and the final term by four to run out convincing 17-goal winners.
It was another strong team performance, with everyone contributing across the court.
Lauren Miles was deservedly voted Players’ Player after a determined performance full of class and composure.

Tungamah 42 def Picola 21
After bouncing back from last week’s loss, the girls showed plenty of resilience and determination to secure a well-earned win.
They started the first quarter strongly, matching Picola across the court, but could not quite capitalise on the scoreboard.
A couple of positional changes in the second quarter sparked the side, and from there the girls lifted another gear.
It was their relentless second efforts, smart little taps, clean pickups and willingness to work for each other that proved the difference.
The defensive pressure was outstanding, restricting Picola to just one goal for the quarter and giving Tungamah the momentum it needed.
Madi S slotted seamlessly into the game, with her tireless work rate a real highlight, earning her the Players’ Player nod.
Claudia faced some physical, body-on-body opponents but never let it faze her.
She stayed composed, played her own game and competed hard all day.
The second half saw Eliza move into defence, where she made an immediate impact.
Her defensive pressure and ability to read the play were outstanding, helping shut down Picola’s attacking opportunities.
It was a genuine team performance from start to finish.
Every player embraced their role, worked hard for one another, and the scoreboard reflected the effort.
It was a fantastic response after last week and a well-deserved win for the girls.

C Reserve
Tungamah 28 def Picola 23
This game was a tough one for the team.
The first half was a constant fight for the ball, and the score was even.
The team worked well together and was able to execute almost every pass.
The three feet pressure was amazing, with minimal obstruction calls.
The game got away from Tungamah in the third quarter, but the girls persevered.
With changes made for the fourth quarter and a hard fight, the girls were able to come out on top.
It was a well-deserved win for the team.

Under 17s
Tungamah 78 def Picola 14
The team displayed great teamwork, communication and effort across the court, with a strong performance from everyone involved.
The game was a great opportunity for players to take on different roles, with seven players rotating through shooter throughout the match, including four players trying the position for the first time this season and all scoring.

Under 15s
Tungamah 35 def Picola 13
It was another strong game by the team on a perfect sunny winter’s day.
The team showed great defensive pressure across the court and made the most of its opportunities.
Asha was ever reliable in attack, converting plenty of goals.
She showed her versatility by finishing the game in GK and taking plenty of intercepts.
Sienna took the GK bib and made it her own, not letting the height of her opponent intimidate her.
Lyla showed super effort in attack and defence, with strong drives across the court and lots of tips leading to loose balls for her teammates to pick up.
The team is looking forward to the bye next week.

Under 13s
Tungamah 49 def Picola 8
It was another fantastic performance from the Under 13s, with Tungamah defeating Picola 49-8.
The girls showed outstanding teamwork from the first whistle, creating plenty of turnovers through strong defensive pressure and excellent communication.
They used the channels well, moved the ball with confidence, and made the most of every opportunity to convert turnovers into goals.
The coaches made plenty of positional changes throughout the game, giving everyone the chance to experience roles they do not usually play.
Every player adapted brilliantly, showing great versatility, skill and a willingness to take on new challenges.
It was a fantastic team effort and another great game from all the girls.

Under 11s
A few of the Under 11s were away this week, but the girls put together an awesome game.
It was a fantastic match, with both teams showing plenty of skill and making for a great contest from start to finish.
The team’s defensive pressure was outstanding, and it was fantastic to see the girls implementing the “setting up the ring” strategy they have been working on at training.
Most importantly, everyone had a great day, worked hard for each other and continued to improve every quarter.
