On November 15, the Governor of Victoria Margaret Gardner hosted a bridge afternoon at Government House for two people from each club around the state.
One hundred and sixty people gathered to contest the boards in the grand ballroom. The governor addressed the players emphasizing the importance of face-to-face social events and the benefit of the mental exercise needed to play the game.
The Northern Region was well represented with players from Shepparton, Bendigo, Wangaratta, Nagambie, Echuca and Wodonga.
Tom and Jan Hackett were pleased and proud to represent the Yarrawonga club.
Monday’s four and a half table competition, the first of the three week President’s Cup, saw Terry and Jerry Browning take top honours with a score of 94 (65.3%).
Tom and Jan Hackett placed second with 84 points (58.3%) with David Ware and Les Williams in third spot with 79 points (54.9%). All still fairly close.
Thursday’s attendance was again down, with only two and a half tables entering the competition.
Scores were very close. David and Les prevailed with 24 points, followed by the Hacketts with 23 points and the Hendersons with 22 points.
