YMGCR Men’s 9 Holes
Last Tuesday, golfers played the first round of the John Dunstan Memorial Trophy and, while the wind played havoc with many of the participants, Joe “OneB2Rs” Sciberras revelled in the conditions on the Blue course, scoring 21 points to take out the win.
Trevor “San” Pellegrino came in second with 20 points, while Steve Hutchinson led a three-way countback from Phil Howard and Stuart Paterson on 19 points.
Ball prizes also went to Normie Prior, Graeme Lavis, Ray French and Dave Holdsworth.
On the Red course, Craig “Big Dog” Thurston also enjoyed the windy conditions as he long-drove his way to a 22-point win to take home the bacon, with Tony Evans also scoring well with 21 points in the runner-up position.
Minor ball prizes went to Darryl “Hannah” Haden (20), John Kolodziej (18), John Dixon, Digger Dunne, Artie Massey, Peter Mansfield and Ray Minette.
Last Thursday, the conditions were perfect as round two resumed and, on the Blue course, Peter Mansfield had a day out, scoring 24 points to take the win thanks to some awesome putting.
Digger Dunne took the runner-up spot with 21 points, while the ever-consistent Tony Shead scored 20 points to edge Bruce Anderson in a countback.
Minor ball prizes also went to Ian Barton, Dave Hall, Billy Hidson, Barry McDonald and Col Rosser.
On the Red course, Rod Newman won the day with 20 points to again push Trevor Pellegrino into the bridesmaid spot with 19 points.
Neil Calder and Ray Douglas both did well with 18 points each, while ball prizes also went to Geoff Burgess, Steve Williamson, Stuart Paterson, Ross Watson and Ron Hocking.
All in all, it was a very successful and highly competitive competition, with just three points separating the top four golfers, with the surprise winner to be announced on Presentation Day in December.
