Now positioned within one easy-access strip, the move has created a true healthcare and shopping hub designed to make life simpler for local residents.
Owner Abbey Hammon said the relocation presented the perfect opportunity to create a welcoming new vision for the independent and family owned pharmacy and its customers.
“We thought it was a fantastic opportunity to help create a real hub for Mulwala,” Abbey said.
She said the team wanted the new space to feel warm, calming and inviting — somewhere customers genuinely enjoy spending time in.
The beautifully designed new pharmacy offers a larger and more functional layout, with clever use of a mezzanine storage level allowing for even more spacious front-of-shop browsing.
Customers can also enjoy the comfort and privacy of a dedicated consultation room designed for vaccinations, healthcare services and confidential one-on-one advice.
“Having two pharmacists allows time to discuss individual needs and the new consultation room offers a great confidential spot for discussion,” Abbey said.
New home, trusted local care
“Our staff are very experienced in the pharmacy industry, with the main focus being friendly customer service,” Abbey said.
Pharmacist Cameron Wood has more than 20 years of experience. Cam knows vaccinations inside out, is happy to offer advice on travel needs and possesses an incredible knowledge of up-to-date medication information.
Nell Duffy is a dispensary technician and is always happy to discuss Webster packing needs.
Vicki Brown has worked in pharmacies for most of her adult life and brings incredible knowledge of the over-the-counter product range, while also sourcing new gifts for the store.
Toni Loughnan is a friendly face, always keen to assist and regularly finds exciting new ranges to add to the store.
Kathy Ryan is another valued member of the front-of-shop team and has years of experience in helping with CPAP needs.
Junior staff Jasmine Lewis, Cara Ward and Emma Mangan are always happy for a chat and go out of their way to help with customer needs.
Pharmacy in Abbey’s blood
Abbey grew up with pharmacy in her blood. Her parents owned an independent pharmacy in Ballarat.
It was her parents’ passion to be a listening ear for people and to care above and beyond for people’s health that helped her fall in love with community pharmacy.
“It runs through your veins and that the satisfaction gained from making a difference to people’s lives is what we all care about,” Abbey said.
“I am passionate about running an independent pharmacy and live and breathe it.”
Ample car parking and rear access
A priority in choosing the new location was offering rear access to assist with easier parking for customers during busy periods.
“Having rear access allows customers to park out the back and come through either the back or front door to access not only the pharmacy, but also the doctors and local businesses,” Abbey said.
The access to the car park can be via the laneway out the back
or from Melbourne Street next to Kennedy Builders’ offices.
Locals love pharmacy makeover
The Mulwala Pharmacy team thanked its “amazing” customers for all the fantastic feedback regarding the new shop.
“It’s been lovely to hear people say, ‘wow, this looks fantastic’, and comments like, ‘This shop belongs in Toorak,’ have blown us away,” Abbey said.
Local identity Helen Purtle described the new-look Mulwala Pharmacy as “a great asset to our town”.
The staff at Mulwala Pharmacy are very helpful with health needs,” Helen said.
“Mulwala Pharmacy provided great service at its previous location and is continuing to provide great service in its new, well-positioned pharmacy, wishing the team all the best in the new premises.”

Healthcare with a caring and welcoming touch
Abbey said the pharmacy’s focus is on achieving the best possible patient outcomes, helping people feel confident with their medications and ensuring they stay on top of their health.
Mulwala Pharmacy has seen many changes during Abbey’s 12 years with the business.
For example, after identifying a lack of service in the area, Abbey introduced the opioid substitution program to the pharmacy rather than customers being forced to travel to Cobram, Wangaratta or Corowa for the service.
Mulwala Pharmacy offers free Webster packing, NDSS products, free blood pressure monitoring, a full vaccination service, CPAP studies, free delivery and all the healthcare services sought by customers.
“Mulwala Pharmacy has always been about offering the best healthcare services for customers and creating a safe, inviting space where customers feel comfortable,” Abbey said.
“The pharmacy continues to pride itself on great customer service and remains passionate about supporting everyone’s individual healthcare needs.”
