The Yarrawonga Pigeons A Grade outfit continues to underline its reputation as the competition’s force, with a polished 53–31 victory over Lavington showcasing the depth and quality of its superstars’ class.
While the final margin suggests a comfortable result, the contest had its challenges. A messy second quarter disrupted Yarrawonga’s rhythm, allowing the inexperienced Lavington side to stay within striking distance and trail by just three goals at halftime. But as they have done time and again, the Pigeons regrouped, reset, and demonstrated the composure that defines this team filled with generational talent.
Leading the way was Maddy Allan, who delivered another steady and reliable performance despite battling a heavy cold. Her resilience and consistency continue to set the tone for the side, highlighting the professionalism within this emerging core.
In defence, Hannah Symes produced a commanding display at goalkeeper, taking on a significantly taller shooter and refusing to be outworked. Her timing, positioning, and strength in the contest proved pivotal in shutting down Lavington’s scoring avenues.
Kylie Leslie again showcased the versatility that makes this group so dangerous. After starring in defence the previous week, she shifted seamlessly into attacking roles at goal attack and wing attack, providing drive and creativity through the midcourt and forward line.
The Pigeons’ attacking end was often crowded, with Lavington defenders applying relentless physical pressure that at times resembled a football-style battle.
Yet it was Yarrawonga’s experience and patience that ultimately broke the game open. Smart ball movement and composure under pressure allowed them to find space, convert opportunities, and steadily pull away.
More than just another win, the performance reinforced the strength of a squad built on a blend of emerging talent and hardened contributors, a generational group that continues to perform.
