The Tigers have been a step below the high mark they set last season in 2026 and that proved to be the case again against the Swans, the locals falling to an 8.6 (54) to 10.9 (69) defeat.
A cagey first period had just four scoring shots between the two sides, a Nate Rasmussen major for Rochester book ended by a pair of Swans goals.
Trailing 13-6 at the first break, Rochester came out firing in the second and burst to the lead with two quick goals.
A slew of half chances saw the Tigers add four straight minor scores and the Swans capitalised with a couple of late majors, reducing the margin to two by half-time.
The Swans took control with the first goal of the second half and extended pressure overturned the behind count, putting the lead beyond a goal.
Rochy got back within a few points twice in the term and went into the final break within a kick at 40-44.
However, the Swans would close the door early in the fourth, kicking the first four goals of the term to race out by nearly 30, a couple of consolation majors for the Tigers reducing the deficit to 15 by the final siren.
Hugh Hamilton continued to prove his worth after his recent return, leading Rochester’s offensive efforts with three goals.
The Tigers struggled to contain James Auld, who carried the Swans in the first half, kicking five for the game.
Rochester looks in significant trouble with a 2-5 record, but has suffered its five defeats, several by narrow margins, to five of the sides in the top six.
The Tigers get a needed week off to rest, regroup and refocus as the league heads into a general bye.
The side returns in what is in many ways a must-win clash if the Tigers hope to make a finals push, taking on the 3-4 Benalla.
