Through their fundraising, YFIC are able to slightly lighten the burden on cancer patients and their families who may have to travel for treatment, by assisting them with travel costs, accommodation and connection to further services.
For the first time in four years, YFIC in conjunction with the Mulwala Water Ski Club are preparing for their biggest fundraiser of the year with their Cuppa for Cancer to be held on Wednesday, May 17 from 10am at the Mulwala Water Ski Club.
The event, which has been running for more than 10 years, will run from 10am to 12.30pm, with doors to open at 9.30am with plenty of morning tea goodies on offer.
Different to previous years, small plates will be made up of delicious homemade sandwiches, slices, cakes and scones for those in attendance to enjoy with their cup of tea or coffee.
For $10/head, with tickets to be available at the door on the day, there will be spinning wheels and raffles with raffle tickets currently being sold at Woolworths between 9am and 1pm on Thursday, May 11 and more to be sold on the day.
Friends in Common Vice President Marilyn Albert said the committee are eager to once again host the event and ask those in the community who love baking to assist in putting their skills to good use.
“It is our first Cuppa for Cancer since Covid began so we are excited to host our much-loved event again,” Ms Albert said.
“We would love to see as many people as possible along on the day with much support already being provided to us.
“We’d like to give a massive thank you to the several local businesses and shops who have provided us with fantastic prizes for the spinning wheel and raffles.
“Sacred Heart College will also once again be involved to assist us with selling the raffle tickets on the day and it is great to see the children get involved.
“We hope to see a lot of you on the day!”
If you love baking and putting your skills to good use for a worthy cause, your help would be greatly appreciated to help with catering for the day.
Food donations of cakes and slices etc. can be dropped off at the Ski Club up until 4pm on Tuesday, May 16 or before 8am on the day of the event.
Mulwala Water Ski Club Marketing Manager Cathy Randell said the ski club are always happy to get behind YFIC as they are proud of their contribution to the local community.
“Friends in Common do such an amazing job in the community that we are always happy to support them in any of their fundraising journeys,” Ms Randell said.
“We urge the local community to support YFIC and their cause by coming along on the day. If you are unable to attend, monetary donations to their cause are always worthwhile or if you are able to cook some delicious morning tea and donate it for sale and to enjoy on the day, that is greatly appreciated.”
Everyone is invited to come along and enjoy a great day.
