Speed Golf Australia Par 3 Championship
The Speed Golf Australia Par 3 Championship visited Parkland on the weekend.
The winner scored 69 in 21 minutes and the tournament had different categories as well.
Mitch Grandell, a Shepparton local, played the course in 29 minutes with a score of 61.
It’s a pure challenge where golfers run the best time while playing with minimal baggage.
It certainly was a test with a little water lying around.
Five juniors also played in the event. The club looks forward to holding it again next year.

Parkland women
Local business Cotton Co of 218 Allan Street, Kyabram, were our generous sponsors for the Stableford event held on Tuesday, September 29, where a field of 32 women participated.
Heather Sleeth (21) continued her performance from last week, with her score of 37 points making her the winner of A Grade again.
Faye Glover (17) closely followed with 36 points to be named runner-up.
It was a countback in B Grade, with Kathy Risstrom (26) taking the honours with 35 points over Mareza Bauerle (23) who was runner-up with the same score.
Susie Bennett (30) won C Grade and in doing so achieved the best score of the day, carding 39 points.
Kyra Clarke (30) also repeated her effort of last week, and with 36 points was again runner-up.
Ball competition winners – Janet Watt 35 points, Heather Gunstone 34, Chris Kelly 34, Denise Hee 33 and Lyn Bailey 33 after a countback.
Nearest the pin on the ninth was won by Lyn Eels, while Veronica Ryan won the jackpot on the 18th with her second shot and Heather Gunstone took home the Firstea voucher for nearest on the sixth.
Valley View Golf
It wasn’t a four ball but Saturday’s October medal round was dominated by Valley View’s dynamic duo of Peter Blackmore and Lawrie Casey (I’ll leave it to you to decide who is Batman and who is Robin), with Blackers taking home his fourth Monthly Medal shirt and Lawrie going back-to-back as the Medallist of Medallists winner.
Blackmore won the medal with a round of 87-15-72 in a countback from B Grade winner David Collins (89-17-72), while Lawrie took out the Medallist of Medallist title (and A Grade runners-up trophy) with 86-12-74, nudging out Daryl Harrison, who posted a round of 79-5-74.
In a remarkably consistent round, Peter’s card showed five pars, 11 bogeys and just two double bogeys, which was a good effort on a track showing the signs of almost 30mm of rain on Friday.
The highlights of Lawrie’s round were birdies on the sixth and 11th holes, but four double bogeys cost him the chance of a Monthly Medal-Medalist of Medalists double.
Meanwhile, a double bogey seven on the 14th and triple bogey seven on the 17th put paid to David’s medal chances on what was otherwise a very good card.
Paul Dickens finished as the B Grade runner-up with 91-18-73 and Jenni Bauerle was the ladies’ winner with 96-17-79 from Tracey Wade’s 99-18-91.
Ball comp winners were Daryl Harrison with nett 74, Ian Brown (74), Pooch McHale (74), Dylan Gallivan (75) and Brett Radley (75).
Brett was also right in the mix for medal honours until an errant tee shot and subsequent nine on his second-last hole derailed his otherwise brilliant round.
Nearest the pin trophy winners were Daryl Harrison (A Grade, 3rd), Ian Brown (B Grade, 3rd), Brett Radley (A Grade, 12th), Paul Dickens (B Grade, 12th), Will Harrison (2nd shot 13th) and Jenni Bauerle (2nd shot 9th).
Daryl Harrison (79) and David Collins (89) were the best gross score ball winners.
A big thanks to Laurie Radley who very generously sponsored Saturday’s event.
It was a big week for Peter Blackmore as he was also Tuesday’s A Grade winner with 41 points from Miles Gould (38), while Laurie Radley was the B Grade winner with 39 points from Brendon Cornwall (38).
Wil Harrison (37 points), David Collins (35), Les Hall (35), Jeff Carnie (35) and John Neale (35) were the ball comp winners.
Shane Bywaters (A Grade, 3rd), Daryl Harrison (A Grade, 12th), Brendon Cornwall (Firstea voucher, 15th), David Collins (2nd shot 9th) and Michael Gallivan (2nd to the 13th) were the nearest the pin winners.
A reminder that the AGM will be held this Saturday following presentations, while the following week is the Dom Cerrone Memorial 4Ball.

Valley View women
On Monday, September 28, Valley View hosted 60 women for our annual Jewellery Day.
Conditions were perfect for golf and the possibility of winning beautiful silver bracelets provided by our very generous sponsor Kyabram Showcase Jewellers, brought golfers from across the GMGA and also Bendigo.
Players contested a 4BBB Stroke event.
Scores on the day were very good with the majority of the field returning scores better than the course par of 74.
Winners, with the exceptional score of 63 nett, 11 strokes under par, were Terri Giffen and Linda Durling from Parkland.
Runners-up Leesa Barnes and Janet Pycroft from Nathalia finished two shots back on 65 nett.
Allison Keogh from Shepparton enjoyed an excellent day on the Par 3s, taking home the nearest the pin on the 15th and the Pot of Gold on the 3rd.
Cards had to be drawn to find the winners in B and C Grades on the 15th, when no one was able to land their ball on the green.
Lucky winners were Barb McCarty from Rochester and Ann McPherson from Parkland/Rich River.
Valley View’s next major event is our Lally Gold Watch Day on Friday, October 30.
Last Wednesday, Valley View Women played a Stableford round sponsored by Kyabram Remedial Massage.
Perfect conditions again led to excellent scores.
The winner in A Grade was Judy Greer on a countback from Von Morris, when both finished on 38 points.
B Grade winner Judy Sutton also finished with 38 points.
Margaret Smerdon was runner-up on a countback from Lynne Canavan with 36 points.
Gill Thorsen won the Firstea voucher on the 3rd.
Merrigum Golf
Merrigum’s golf course, like most others around the district, welcomed Friday’s rain, and will have the effect that no amount of water applied by sprinklers can replicate.
Just when golfers were starting to appreciate a little more run, that was curtailed somewhat by the rain. But that is a small sacrifice for all the good it will do.
The slower track didn’t bother the two leading players in Saturday’s Stableford event, as they equalled or bettered their handicaps with solid performances, and both players spend quite a bit of time working on the course, so it is good to see their efforts being rewarded.
Bernie McGrath was the winner of the day with a very good round of 39 points.
Boulder can give the ball a fair roost, so the lack of run doesn’t bother his game too much.
He had a remarkably consistent day, with his only blow-out coming on the hole rated as the easiest on the course, the par three 12th.
He will find he has a shot less to play with next time he ventures on to the Merrigum course.
Mick Poulton was another to lose a shot from his handicap after scoring 36 points from his eight handicap.
He scored on every hole as he battled to keep up with Bernie, with both players being in the same group.
Ball competition winners were Clint Prygoda and Bill Bray, both with 33 points.
Nearest the pins were won by Bill Bray on both the ninth and the 14th, and by Alan Fabris on the jackpot 12th, while Bernie McGrath took out the chook shed challenge with 10 points.
Luckily one player doesn’t live too far from the course, having found himself quite a few clubs short when he arrived.
His last round was the three-club event and he hadn’t thought to replenish his bag, but wasn’t sure whether the extra clubs helped or hindered his round on Saturday.
This Saturday’s event is string golf sponsored by president Greg Hall.
This is fun event which requires a little thought and judicious use of your length of string, which is effectively your handicap.
With the advent of daylight saving, the twilight season begins this Thursday, with hit-off between 4 and 5pm.
Valley View Bowls
Saturday pennant
The first match was against Lockington on their greens.
We welcome our new members to the club, which will greatly relieve the need to field our rinks.
Although not the ideal start to the season, going down by 49 shots overall, the rink skipped by Ken Black with Kevin Broadhurst, Lenny Wiseman and Alf Soden started very well, leading 15 to nine on the 15th end.
Unfortunately they were unable to win an end over the remaining six, where Lockington picked up 11 shots. Final result went to Locky, 20 to 15.
The rink skipped by Barry Brown with George Clarence, Ken Hastie and Bob Greenaway had wins on seven ends for 10 shots to Lockington winning 14 ends for 21 shots.
Graeme Topp skipped for Dave Clavell, Peter Lyon and John Armstrong.
The Locky team picked up some big wins on a couple of ends to open up a gap of 32 shots by the 15th end.
They picked up six shots to four over the last six ends to take the win 44 to 11. Overall result was 85/36.
Next week is at home against Stanhope.
Our midweek pennant commences on Tuesday, October 6, with us travelling to Tongala, followed by a home match against Moama on the October 13.
Good luck to both teams and good bowling.
Kyabram Pigeon Club
This week’s meet was held from Wilcannia on October 4.
The winner was Shannon Goode from Kyabram with a fast 1028.01mpm.
Also on the podium was Ray and Roza Armstrong (Echuca) and Andrew Williamson (Echuca East).
The Armstrongs finished second with a speed of 1027.39 mpm, while Williamson was third at 1021.82 mpm.
Moama’s M and P Racing’s birds finished fourth, clocking in at 981.02 mpm.
