The Diggers welcomed Beryl Murray to their midweek Division 2 side, and her team of Gaye Goodwin, Archie Webster and Callan Glenn had a tight start with five shots to four after the fifth end.
With the Diggers only adding two shots to Moama’s seven, the Steamers were in front 7-11 at the 10th end.
Moama powered on adding six to total 17 and limiting the Diggers to only one shot, to give them eight on the card after 15 ends.
The RSL rallied and, along with a five, they grabbed two twos over the last six ends.
Moama also scored a five, a two and a three, which gave the Steamers the win by 10 shots, 17-27.
Craig Taylor’s team of Allan Hodges, Jo Chick and Miro Peterman were still looking good at the 10th end being eight shots up, 14-6.
Moama changed gears and, over the next five ends, RSL could only manage one shot to the Steamers’ 11.
The Diggers simply could not do a thing, and only added one more shot to bring their tally to 16.
Moama charged home, adding 12 more shots to bring the rink score to 16-29.
Mason Glenn led for John Wilson, Garry Hulm and Niels Hilton, and they won their rink by 10 shots.
After the fifth end the score was 3-7, and that was the last time Moama was in front.
At the 10th end the card showed 12-7 and morale was high.
The Diggers only allowed Moama one shot in the next five ends, while piling on 11 of their own.
Moama grabbed a six on the 17th and two twos in the final run home to total 18, but the Diggers never looked like losing this rink and added five to bring their score to 28.
This rink’s win of 10 shots brought the overall score to 61-74, giving Moama the win and 14 points and RSL two points.
It is only the start of the season, but the Deni RSL Diggers sit 4th on the Division 2 ladder.
This coming Tuesday, Division 2 will travel just across the road to play Deniliquin Bowling Club.
Weekend pennant
Division 3 play Deniliquin Bowling Club at home on Saturday.
Unfortunately in Division 5, Tongala Bowling Club have forfeited due to lack of players available for round 2.
The Div 3 Team was not finalised at the time of going to print.
